Try Carpet Yard in McLean. (They also have a Merrifield location.) We used them first to install a hardwood floor. Empire gave an estimate of $20k, which they lowered to $10k after supposedly talking to the manager by phone. Home Depot's price was $7,400. Carpet Yard charged $5,700 and they did a very good job. We subsequently used them to carpet our basement. The scary thing about Empire, besides their "rug merchant" tactics, is that they will actually install hardwood the next day. Most people I talked to said that you should leave the wood in the room for a couple of days so that it adjusts to the humidity. Carpet Yard put the wood in the room a couple of days before installation.
