Let's be blunt - anything less than an undefeated season and a second state championship would be a colossal failure and a stunning underachievement by Centreville. The 2015 team is stacked like none in NOVA history + they now have invaluable playoff experience together. An all star team compiled from every other high school in NOVA would probably not have a shot at this team. I have no doubt they will get it done.

What about the 2013 non-playoff teams from Northern 6A. These ten teams didn't make the playoffs in 2013 (with 2013 records):

McLean, 5-5
Oakton, 5-5
West Potomac, 4-6
Woodson, 3-7
West Springfield, 3-7
Osbourne, 3-7
Osbourne Park, 2-8
Madison, 1-9
Herndon, 1-9
Annandale, 1-9

Opinions on which of these teams would get into the playoffs?

Not playoff material, but I would expect Herndon to rank among the most improved. It remains to be seen if McLaughlin and Bumbrey have any supporting cast but they will be among the most experienced QB and talented RB in NOVA.

Woodsons new coach had freak QB Greg Stroman which is a big reason they avg 38 points. Don't automatically assume woodson can produce that. see stroman and you will see why SJ's offense was so good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYWbqFfdhfo

Dick in your face Wrote:

The realignment is not yet complete. For this season, there are some 5A schools that are still in conferences with 6A schools. For example, the Liberty district still includes 5A Marshall, TJ, and Stone Bridge. Those three schools play each other, and also play Langley, McLean, Fairfax, Madison, and South Lakes, even though they would participate in the 5A playoffs, if they make it. I don't know how records against upper division schools work for seeding purposes.

The realignment will be complete next year. One of the new 5A conferences is all Arlington and Fairfax (this was cut and pasted from the VHSL website):

Capitol Conference 13
Thomas Jefferson S&T
George Marshall
Thomas Edison
Falls Church
Mount Vernon
J.E.B. Stuart
Wakefield
R.E. Lee-Springfield

One of the stronger 5A schools figures to be Stone Bridge, who will be slotted in Conference 14. They traditionally have a strong program. They were slotted in the Liberty District and were undefeated against the 7 other teams in Liberty, including 5 schools that are 6A. The team that came closest to beating them in conference was Fairfax, losing to them only 33-28. I hear that Fairfax led most of that game, with Stone Bridge scoring it's go-ahead TD with a minute left, but that Fairfax almost converted a Hail Mary pass as time expired which would have won it for them.

it's Mat Shannon with one t.

He was QB's at WS, then OC at WS, then HC at FFX, then db asst at WF, then took time off for family adjustment, then wr at WF, then OC at WF for 2 years, then off season with LB, then TE's with Madison.

He played QB at Richmond and tried out for the Atlanta Falcons.
He enjoys long walks on the beach and Brion's Grille.

Lake Braddock takes the crown over John Champe in the final,
McLean almost SHOCKS hayfield in their matchup,
TJ is still bad,
Falls Church with an embarrassing loss in the opening round to W&L,

All of these kids mentioned committing early to be able to focus on their Senior years and another Championship. Turner has yet to commit but will also be another D1 player. 1. Centreville - have goalie issues. One is short and the other hasn't enough match experience
2. Westfield - too many centerbacks
3. Lake Braddock - Since the Hollins kid left they haven't filled the void
4. Robinson - awful setpiece execution
5. Stonewall Jackson - Too many kids from prince william
6. South County - They do 11 on 11 illegal practices but since the coaches are bad it just instills bad habits. They will score less than 30 goals on the season
7. Patriot - Putting all their faith in a striker who transferred from Woodson a bad idea.
8. Oakton - Not diverse enough in their play. Too vanilla.
9. Chantilly - All the extra paid training they do will amount to little as their defense will continue to give up way too many corner kicks.
10. Yorktown - The only thing keeping yorktown in the top 10 is their ability to beat Hayfield when it matters.
11. T.C. Williams - All they do is kick it down the field in hopes of a hail mary.
12. Langley - Very smart team. smart enough to realize the HGH won't help.
13. Battlefield - Their wonder years are over. Big tall kids from PWC can't kick.
14. Hayfield - They have a great chance to beat Stuart. That's all they need.
15. Fairfax - Good at saving their HC's job by living up to low expectations will continue.
16. Washington-Lee - they suck

17. McLean - new coach will implement archaic systems. Might as well be rugby.
18. Woodson - After playing switch-a-roo with some pieces from PW they will look to win a few games on penalty kicks.
19. West Potomac - With most of the team playing rugby their only silver lining is they aren't Herndon.
20. South Lakes - The "Mount Vernon" of the North will just be happy when the kids get yellow cards instead of red.
21. Herndon - With a very good population of soccer oriented students they will have to overcome their new coaches lack of common sense in putting their best striker in goal.
22. West Springfield - Edison...I mean these guys will try hard.
23. Osbourne Park - If they can keep their multi sport guys from getting suspended I see a chance for them to hold onto the 23 spot!
24. Osbourne - If anyone knows the difference between them and OP please shed some light.
24. Annandale - For such a large overpopulated school you would think they would accidentally score a goal every so often. But they will lead the league in own goals... again.
26. Madison - They won the Westfield penalty kick invitational shootout a few weeks ago. yep, who cares.

The one with the most kicks should be football.
The NFL is about to get rid of kick-offs.... football....

Germany rolled those guys.
Do Germans play football in the high schools?
Maybe more exchange programs could help boost some of the teams.
