Dogue Creek: The home of snake heads. That's your quarry right there.

Never been there, I always go to DC, and as of yesterday there have been no Herring. Not suppose to use nets there, but everyone does.

Be warned - it's no longer legal to have River Herring in your possession!

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/regulations

"Moratorium on Possession of River Herring

It is now illegal for any person to have river herring in their possession—this includes blueback herring and alewife. All river herring inadvertently caught by anglers must be immediately released back into the water. In Virginia, regulations regarding the harvest and possession of river herring are set by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC). On January 1, 2012, VMRC enacted a regulation which makes it unlawful for any person to be in possession of river herring in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Anglers with concerns or questions should contact the Virginia Marine Fisheries Commission (VMRC) in Newport News at 1-800-541-4646. Additional information can be found on the VMRC website."

I thought it was unsafe to eat from any of the waters around here....don't you have to go out to the bay or in the potomac itself to catch somethng worth eating?

Not to mention, all the immigrants who don't have licenses are overfishing, using nets to catch a lot of fish and eating up all the fish anyways...leaving none for us sport anglers....

The lake near my house is full of Indians, turban type, who fish using nets. They keep everything regardless of size and catch limits. I doubt they have a fishing license either since they ignore the laws. I called the game wardens office but they said they were too busy to look into it.

If you have a non resident license for DC,$13. you can catch herring there and eat or use them for bait there. Just don't bring them into Virginia. DC owns the Potomac from the wilson bridge to the chain bridge.
