Mr. Hegarty is the victim here.
While it's appropriate to investigate any kind of impropriety, Mr. Hegarty has worked with children (including my own) for 20 years without a single complaint.
It's unfortunate that so many have the take the safe PC road and I hope that in time Mr. Hegarty's reputation will be completely restored; else, we are worse as a nation.
In a situation like this everyone has an angle and it's important to let action speak louder than words and Mr. Hegarty's actions have proven him a person of impeccable character.
Literally hundreds of parents and kids (now adults themselves) came to his defense. It's too bad that this information is harder to find than the worst fears of someone who doesn't know the situation first hand.
