Boycott Obama Supporters Business in Fairfax County to Protest ObamaCare Rate Inreases?
Posted by: WingNut ()

My policy will have to be renewed under different terms thanks to Obama.

Close to a 40% monthly increase, and a $1500 higher deductible. This is not keeping the plan I like as was promised.

So it's about $1000 a year+ that I don't get to spend as I like, instead it goes to insurance companies who have been forced by regulations to change coverage and policies.

So, because I won't have this extra discretionary money every year, I guess I need to rethink my priorities.

In particular, I have a place I like to eat in Alexandria, great food and I have always enjoyed it. The owner is a nice guy, but an Obama contributor and a generally clueless rich kid working with money from Mom and Pop. I have spent $400 to $500 a year at his place.

Or the guy who details my vehicles. He was wearing an Obama ski cap just a few weeks ago. I have time and now I have an excuse to detail my own cars.

These are "small business" people, but should I say "fuck them" and spend my money elsewhere?

Thinking I should.

Absolutely!

They probably don't know what a malcontented jackass you really are.

They'll be more than happy to be rid of you.

Why not spend that time finding an employer who offers better benefits? You'd probably manage a pay increase too boot.

I mean, that's what you Republicans like to tell everyone else that's in a bind, right? It's your own fault you have a shitty job with terrible benefits. You should try harder.

This is the land of opportunity. Let capitalism reign.

Ever imagine working for yourself?

Or being proactive and responsible for your own health?

Can't imagine it, right?

I think you should - and, I think you should let them know why you will not be bringing your business to them. Not in a snarky way - just letting them know that thanks to ACA, your premiums have risen and you need to cut your spending....

40% increase and $1500 higher deductible? I don't believe this is your only and best choice. Show the evidence.

"If you like your plan, you can keep your plan"

Freedom is about making your own choices, douchebag, not having them made for you.

Actually, I own my own business.

In 2008 decent health insurance for my family cost $900-$1100 a month on the private market. Insurance premiums were also rising >10% a year average.

Using the exact same qualifying information last week, my health care through the federal exchange with a comparable plan would cost me $750 a month before the subsidies & $290 a month after.

To top it off, I will be enrolling my business to provide insurance to my employees as well because it's the right thing to do and I value them as people, employees & as the reason my businesses still exist.

I'm not really sure what to tell you except you sure are helpless for a Republican.

Of course that's typical. Fuck everyone else, there's always a way to overcome any sort of hardship with hard work & dedication... except if it's happening to you.

Before the subsidies?

OK.

You get subsidies, good for you.

I've been boycotting teabagger-owned businesses for almost four years now.

Oh no, a politician lied to you about something! I feel soooo bad for you! Guess what? This is a complicated new law that obviously will take time to hone. Too bad so many of your fools in office refuse even the slightest bipartisanship to help get things right. And fuck everyone else who this new law benefits so long as it's negatively affecting my pocketbook, right? I got mine and fuck everyone else, right? By the way, what choice did you have a few years ago while insurance rates continued to skyrocket and the insurance companies got fatter and fatter with no fucking accountability? Patriotism and Capitalism do not mix anymore, douchebag.

Actually, I wouldn't get any subsidies today.

I said using the exact same qualifying information as 5 years ago.

In other words, 5 years ago I made significantly less & had 2 kids. Rather than compare those rates with my current rates for 3 kids and triple the income, I compared apples to apples.

The HIGHEST I would pay now is still $200+ cheaper a month than the LOWEST I would have paid then.

My point still stands. Republican's answer to anyone else's problem is to pull themselves up by the bootstrap and fix it. Step up & take your own advice and stop whining about it.

ObamaCare is a Democrat bill, they own all of it.

BS. I know because I actually do own my own business and I've reviewed the available plans.

Post the specific details for the plans and costs as claimed.

I'm saying they shouldn't have fucked with the law if they did not know the consequences.

Great that I am subsidizing your shitty kids because your "small business" doesn't make enough.

And your social, your moms maiden name, and any credit card numbers I can backcheck and verify. And hell, while you are at it, I'm a Nigerian prince and if you send me a few thousand dollars I will send you back millions after my accounts have been unfrozen.

Lol how much of a failure does your "business" have to be in order to qualify for the Obamacare subsidies for your personal plan.

I do enjoy the made up stories though.

I also enjoy the morons like that who think the monthly cost is the end all be all of health insurance costs.

Just out of curiousity... and I mean this sincerely, setting aside any banter...

Health insurance premiums were rising well above 10% a year for the past decade. That does not include any sort of changes in employer contributions for those who had employer based plans. Employers have also been cutting health insurance subsidies for the past decade or more.

So, acknowledging all of that & assuming that trend would continue:

If your insurance rose 40% this year... a whopping $83 a month increase ($41.50 a paycheck for those with employer based health care)

and acknowledging that this kind of change in cost for health insurance is actually not that uncommon and has been more the norm than not over the past decade...

If your insurance leveled out @ your new $285 a month and stayed there for 3 years, would you be satisfied with your costs or with the ACA's attempts to better manage health insurance costs?

If not 3, what about 5?

If not 5, what about 7?

At what point would you, if ever, say "you know, it did end up helping us all in the long run"...

Just curious.

No need to. The plans and specific details of costs and coverage levels contain no personal information and can be easily cut and pasted over.

Most critics of the ACA oppose it on ideological grounds.

Facts mean nothing to them.

Dumbass.

For a family of 2, you stop getting subsidies @ approx. $95,000.

The Silver Plan would be ~$655 a month. Still well below what it was 5 years ago even for someone who was making half of that amount.

NOVA Zip Code, $50k a year, 2 adults (both 35) & 2 children non-smokers:

Household income in 2014:
212% of poverty level
Maximum % of income you have to pay for the non-tobacco premium, if eligible for a subsidy:
6.73%
Health Insurance premium in 2014 (for a silver plan, before tax credit):
$9,483 per year
You could receive a government tax credit subsidy of up to:
$6,117 per year
(which covers 65% of the overall premium)
Amount you pay for the premium:
$3,365 per year
(which equals 6.73% of your household income and covers 35% of the overall premium)

You libs can keep talking tip you're blue in the face (pun intended), but the GOP reasoning will win out in the end. Just wait.... this law will cause our national debt to increase and who knows what it will do to our deficit. In the end, I would bet that we will have MORE uninsured people than we did before the law was enacted. Costs will continue to go up. Typical government program - cause hardships for everyone just to take care of 15% of the population.

and while I do not obviously have my quotes from 5 years ago on me right now:

http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/health-insurance-premiums.aspx

Note the full family premium average for Virginia for 2008:

VA

2010 - 13,588

2009 - 12,622

2008 - 11,935

Average for 2008 = $994 a month

That's the Kaiser calculator which does not reflect the actual plans. It's an estimation only. And you're attempting to skew it by tagging it to a family of 4 making $50K combined.

Yes, if you're relatively lower-income and can take full advantage of subsidies, some of the plans are a good deal. At least assuming that you don't weigh out-of-pocket costs heavily. The problem is that everyone else who is not in that group will pay more in order to subsidize theirs.

You said that you've evaluated specific plans for yourself and employees. Post the specifics for the plan(s) versus the cost/coverage of current plan(s).

Or you could just admit that you're full of shit.

False you stop getting it well before that. For VA a family of two 30 year old adults who have a combined income of 60k gets a tax credit of 100 dollars. Its completely gone by 65k and likely well before that so you were only off by 30k.

In the made up example they were getting a tax credit of almost 500 dollars. That means they were making 50k something combined owning a business large enough where they were going to provide employees health care?

Get real.

Are you kidding me? You're bitching about an $80/month increase to a whopping $285/month for decent health insurance? And then you have the nerve to brag about dropping $500/year at ONE restaurant, and routinely having your car detailed! And you plan to punish businesses who are struggling to make it in order to make a stupid political point.

What a fucking whiner! You'd be the first to tell someone else to grow a pair and deal with it. Absolutely pathetic.

I evaluated plans for my family. The estimates I have seen so far are significantly lower than they were 5 years ago.

I have not evaluated plans for my employees because as I'm sure you know as a business owner, the SHOP site is not available for comparing employer plans until sometime in November.

So much republican whining, so little time. I've got no time for those who tell others that they need to pick themselves up by their bootstraps while they cry about nothing. Additionally, I agree with every poster on this thread who called you on your BS.

You want to hear some real conservative whining, get over to the FCPS budget thread and listen to a bunch of conservatives whine up a storm about the taxes they pay to support the school system while coming up with absolutely ZERO ideas-- unless you call cries for firing almost everybody working there an idea-- on how to improve the system...Imagine that, "the party of ideas" having none. Doing nothing, whining and then blaming somebody else, it's what we have come to expect from today's right.

A family of 4 gets a subsidy up to 400% of the poverty line, which means up to ~$94k.

The Kaiser Calculator has been accepted as a pretty reliable estimate of subsidy amounts:

Are you happy with the FCPS getting a blank check each year that amounts to 50%+ of Fairfax county tax revenue? As a minimum, the FCPS should be open to annual audits. Lots of waste happening to create positions that are higher-paying administrative jobs. Yet, when the lower-income teachers need a raise, the school system cries about not having enough money. Blah!

I'm happy to live in an area that has outstanding public education, not so happy that people whine so much about paying for same. I'm in a 35% tax bracket here and see the value of a strong public education system. Your observation about paying teachers what they are worth is valid, but, not paying them has more to do with the fact that billionaires, like the Koch brothers, demonize teachers and other public servants to they can get on with their shenanigans. I'm not opposed to audits, I am opposed to wild tea party speculation about who does and makes what at FCPS that is demonstrated solely via a FOIA request. At this juncture, they will absolutely have to make cuts but, not the kind of things that Ms Schwartz is suggesting.

What is it worth to you to have one of the best public school districts in the country? People move here because of it, It enhances the quality of living and people do business here because of it. What if FCPS were a second rate school system? How much would that cost in lost real estate tax revenue and business investment?

Really, FBG? That's your attempt at derailing this? FWIW, I wish 90% of the county budget went into FCPS, cutting the insane projects the "supervisors" come up with yearly.

There are at least 3 other places where I clearly say 2 adults 2 kids. The same equation is used in every link I posted to any subsidy calculators.

My sincere apologies for my single typo.

Yep conservative whining about their predicament. STFU already WingNUT. LMAO, you talk about a "clueless kid" and you're about as clueless as they come. You spent $400 to $500 a year there? Wow, you're some kind of big spender wannabe. Pay for your health insurance and pipe down. One thing I did note about people of your ilk, that tool Papa John who makes the shitty pizza and refuses to provide health care insurance for his employees had to change his tone when his franchisees started taking a beating because of lost business due to Papa's big mouth. What a moron, he could have seamlessly dumped .15 to .20 cents on the cost of a pie and nobody would have noticed but he had to draw attention to the fact that he's a selfish prick. Some things never change with today's conservative, at least he came around. There's probably no hope for you.

Yes a family of 4 does get it up to 90k and a family of 4 living at 200 percent of the poverty level ends up having to pay almost 1/3rd of their income from Obamacare plans if they use them, the New England Journal of Medicine covered this in their previous issue from the current one.

Simply posting the month premium means very little for the cost of a plan if it has to be used.

It also doesnt address that some doctors arent accepting Obamacare plans anyway limiting choices.

Yeah you obedient government bitch...

The point is, I was FUCKING FINE with what I had, I don't owe you or any of you other maggots with your hands out anything.

I can handle the rate increase, but why should I? Especially after Dingle Barry stressed so often we could keep our plan.

My $ ≠ your $..

Get your own pussy boy.

Except plenty of people I know who were well off, in their late 50s, white and suffered from cancer or heart disease, had to take out multi-100K loans, maxed out their corporate leave, and basically are working poor now because the insurance companies refused to cover a pre-existing condition. Or the people with ok jobs who got stuck at a company in order to keep their health insurance with a pre-existing condition instead of leaving for a better opportunity and losing out on coverage.

You can afford it today, but in the old system as soon the insurance companies could fuck you over, they would and they did.

Thats the part you dont fuckin understand you trash piece of shit fascist douche

Yup! Seems like a clear case of "Poor Decisionmaking" to me. Coupled of course with a complete lack of "Personal Responsibility".

What do you mean TODAY's right? It's been all wrong and phony for years and years.

"bin Laden? Who's he? The important person here is Monica Lewinsky! None of this tail wagging the dog nonsense!"

"The surplus is a sign that taxes are too high, and I'm here to demand a refund! For the rich!"

"The IAEA put out a report saying that Iraq was six months away from a nuclear weapon."

"I want you to think about a Social Security system that will be flat bust, bankrupt..."

"You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie!"

"Timetables and deadlines only encourage our enemies!"

"THe fundamentals of our economy are strong."

Bill Clinton was offered Bin Laden in 1996 by Sudan. Clinton rejected the offer. Why?

Everyone who paid federal taxes got a tax reduction under the Bush tax cuts. The EITC was expanded by 16% (i.e. people who didn't even owe federal taxes got refunds). The middle class (those earning under $150K) got 65% of the tax cuts and the "rich" (over $250K) got 18%. The liberal lie that the top 1% got almost half the cuts has been debunked for years.

> "The IAEA put out a report saying that Iraq was

Hillary and Kerry, both Senators who read the intel reports, voted FOR the use of force unless Iraq acquiesced to the UN demands (really Bush and Blair's demands)

How's the New Jersey shore coming along? Miserably, that's how. With massive government intervention, it's still a complete mess. It's easier to sit out in the bleachers and throw stones and insults than step onto the field and actually govern. Perhaps that is why our president is in constant campaign mode while allowing the country to devolve into balkanized groups. We get no leadership from this administration, starting at Obama and all the way down to the gardener

Iraq is in shambles and has fallen squarely into the Iranian/Chinese sphere of influence. A complete failure. Bush should have never invaded and Obama should have never signaled that we were pulling out in 2012, giving the terrorists the signal to lie low and wait until we left and then launch new assaults to destabilize the already weak Maliki regimen

Just one of the many reasons why McLame lost. His performance since that election has confirmed that he is a complete sell out

Almost none of your examples have anything to do with whining or blaming someone else. You seem to be retarded. No offense.
