By most measures, there are more people in Fairfax County who will vote Democrat than Republican. Not a lot more, just enough. Look at the make-up of the Board of Supervisors, "non-partisan" School Board, etc.

But it's close, close enough that the so-called Independents can swing an election one way or another. Yet most independents do stand on one side of the fence. With that thought in mind, I give you The Fence Test.

Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

If this was a Reagan or Goldwater definition of conservatism, then spot on, unfortunately the GOP is invaded with a bunch of nut job tea baggers

If a Republican reads Reality's post, he chuckles at the usual name-calling and distorted talking points.
If a Democrat reads Reality's post, he applauds him for keeping on message.

If Chris Perkins reads the fence test, it reinforces his reasons for wanting to serve as the Congressman for the 11th district.

If Gerry Connolly reads it, oh never mind.
