Colchester road right before popes head, on the left. You would have to drug me to convince me that there are any worse.

You need to be more specific. If I'm on Colchester coming from Clifton the house at the intersection with Popes Head on the left is relatively new and probably expensive. So I must be thinking of the wrong one. Coming from Braddock, the church is on the left. That whole stretch is bad; a number of those places still have outhouses.

4415 Forest Hill Dr in Fairfax, although it's been improved recently when 200+ pounds of unsightly garbage was taken out for good.

Always thought the 3 or 4 houses on West Ox Rd (~address 3717) near Waples Mill Rd (near the water tanks) were dumpy. How are such tiny & run down houses still standing in that part of the county?

I know that Clifton still has these types of houses but it is normal for that city since most of those houses are turn of the century houses and you can only build a house on a 5 acre parcel so I think most of these run down houses are just there as investment(more for the land than the house).

This place on the corner of Beulah and Fleet was a real dump.

It's gone now, the land is being developed for luxury townhomes. I'm sure the old guy that lived there sold it for a tidy profit.

There are some delightful properties nearby on Fleet Drive, and they're still there:

This place has a trendy "garbage dumped in front yard" motif with the requisite junked car and bass boat:

There is a house on RT 50 Arlington Blvd between Barkley and Chichester (heading towards the Beltway). That would get my vote. Sorry, Can't post.

Kingstowne,Seriously
Built on whats leftover of a rock quarry used to build DC.
Townhouses and condos for yuppies who are tasteless. Fleet drive may be old,
slightly dilapidated but real working class families brought up real tough
kids who fought and died for you so you could have a chuckle.

Grow the fuck up and have some respect.
And remember there is a Walmart located near your quaint little home.

A wingnut is used by tradesmen for components/machinery that requires a lot of attention. Hmm...
Ideal manufacturers wingnut style electrical connectors for quick splices to terminate pigtails.
Wingnut was a term used by aviators for aircraft groupies.

And them there starter homes have been around since WWII.
Looks as if you drive around Fairfax quite frequently

"Kingstowne,Seriously"

I don't think there are any "old-timers" who wouldn't love to hit the "rewind" button on that one. The toxic chemicals (especially at Manchester Lakes) slowed the whole thing, but losing those pits changed the character of the area for me.

Of course, I'm sure the people that live on Steinway are grateful... we used to play "tug of war" with the "jersey barriers" down there, because they'd block that entrance to "the pits" on a regular basis.

A lot of bonfires, a lot of 4-wheeling, and far too much underage drinking. And yet, I don't remember anyone ever getting seriously hurt.

Fleet Drive may have been quaint 50 years ago, and in fact I'd say most of the houses there now are decent enough. But if you decide not to paint your house, mow the lawn, and throw your broken appliances out on the front lawn to rust, then yes I will make fun of you.

Having a small house is fine, letting it turn into an eyesore is not deserving of respect.

And remember there is a Walmart located near your quaint little home.

I was there shopping two days ago.

P.S. Whoever's in that house on Fleet Drive actually cleaned up the garbage, took the bass boat somewhere else, mowed the lawn and planted some nice flower beds. The junked Saturn, however, is still parked in the exact same spot it's been in since at least 2007.

As for the old guy on the corner of Beulah and Fleet, I tip my hat to him, I figure he made at least $400,000 profit on that sale. I hope he is enjoying himself in whatever tropical paradise he chose to retire to.

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same,
Theres a pink one & a green one
And a blue one & a yellow one
And they are all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And theres doctors & lawyers
And business executives
And they are all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they´re put in boxes
And they come out all the same.

And the boys go into business
And marry & raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same,
Theres a pink one & a green one
And a blue one & a yellow one
And they are all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the insane

There are other roads outta Kingstowne
God, how I loved this country.

One persons trash is anothers treasure.
After flying the world, everything looks good from above.
But at ground level, kingstowne looks like another quaint little community
With its varicose veins and battle scars.
And I know scars.

Sorry man, but like 2concerned wrote, great swimming holes and good place to hide the bodies. I understand progress, but Fleet drive is real America.

Near Kingstowne.....there is this really pretentious community called Cameron Station. Is is true it used to be an industrial area? I heard they had to remove a lot of toxic soil before they could start building homes there.

Both Cameron Station and Kingstowne had toxic dump sites. North corner of Beulah and Telegraph Road is quitely being detoxed. And they made an issue of Love Canal.

Oh my God, how hilarious. This is not the direction I thought this thread would take.

The dumps that should be shown here are poorly cared-for suburbianas that are less than 25 years old and look like crap. The ones cited here are the original homestead houses that the original owners have had no mortgage on for probably 20 years. They're sitting on gold. Who cares about those? They're a little unit of history, and so are the owners.

Sheesh
