Is it an 'old style' tube TV or flat screen? How big is it? Most charities have stopped taking older electronics, regardless of whether they work, since they require a lot of storage space and often become a become a high cost disposal problem. We had good luck using Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/group/US/Virginia) when we wanted to find a new home for 32" Sony a few months ago. Craigslist has a 'free stuff' section as well.

I would check with the country. When I lived in Alexandria, I took my old tube TV and a UPS down to them and they took them for free, but had to be a resident. I would imagine Fairfax has the the same thing. FFS even PWC has it.

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/recycling/electric-sunday.htm

"Fairfax County residents can recycle televisions, computers and peripheral devices – including keyboards, speakers, printers, external drives and other such materials – and unbroken fluorescent light bulbs and tubes on Electric Sundays. There is No Charge for Fairfax County residents to participate in Electric Sunday; however, they may be required to show proof of residency. This year’s Electric Sunday events are scheduled monthly through November."

Next one is the 20th.
