wish they had music, but don't see a bright future. Heard that John was gone and the place was closing.
It stinks- like smells bad- the food is rotten and bathrooms are unusable>>>
If they do renovate, they have a huge job.
Sad to see them go under but that is what it looks and feels like. <
Too bad, hope I am wrong.

I go there all the time, here's what I know:

It's not closing, but John has been out of town for some time. His son is learning the ropes and is going to take it over. I don't know of any plans for renovations, but I'd be very surprised if that were the case given the circumstances.

It's popularity is on a night to night basis. Sometimes it's dead, and sometimes you can't get a seat. Their pinball events are getting more and more exposure. They've recently been featured in the Washington post, Fairfax Patch, and WTOP concerning the pinball league. This past weekend they had a tournament that pushed the maximum capacity. No exaggeration, it was sardine style. A fire marshall would have had a fit.

I've only been going there for a couple years, do I don't know what it used to be like. I love the hell out of the place, and as far as I can tell they're doing just fine. Maybe I'm wrong, but it certainly feels like my friends and I alone are paying their bills ;-) I love the joint, you just gotta come at the right times and it's a party.

Last I was in (about two weeks ago), they told me the kitchen was being renovated. I don't know what it was like years ago, but I like how it's usually pretty low key. I just wish I could smoke cigarettes in the pool/pinball room.
And it would be nice if they got some new pool cues...

Been going to John's place for years. The rooftop bar is a great spot in nice weather, and there is always a mixed crowd. Anything from college kids to seniors getting a few beers with friends.

I've always enjoyed my time there, but I do hope they reno the bathrooms.

Man if you are looking for a dive, John's place fits the bill. That said, it's a great place to go if you are looking to hangout in a neighborhood garage type setting. You won't find any stuck up yuppies and no dress code.

The bar is rough looking but the people are great fun.
