For blocking the Parkway around Lee Chapel this morning. The police had the cars off and only blocking one lane. Then the fire department showed up and blocked the whole intersection. Nice job guys.

Don't you know? The firefighter's training handbook mandates that all travel lanes must be blocked no matter how trivial an incident might be. Textbook examples include the hay fire on 66 last year. Instead of just putting it out and pushing the hay off the road, FCPD and FCFD blocked the road for the required 4 hour minimum.

What did you expect? These are some of the dumbest motherfuckers that ever drew a breath. Overgrown kids that love to go, look at me, I'm a fire man!

They just hired a newly-retired FCFD guy at work and the boss is already working on firing this moron. This shithead is the first fireman I have ever known personally. They are even dumber than I thought.

Couldn't make the cut when you applied, huh?? Don't feel too bad, I'm sure your super inteligent job keeps your wife fairly happy. It just makes me sad that you can't see the look on her face when we're on you're passenger side and she looks over at us in the fire truck. I wonder if she ever looked at you that way?

I'm sure our Anonymous poster is eminently more qualified than a professional fire fighter to know when an intersection should be blocked off.

I can't believe they did that!

Bullshit. If there's more than a small risk of danger to their person, they'll stand around and watch you die.

I have read some of the threads on here related to the fire department. They seem to have alot of time on their hands to bitch and moan about who is screwing who and who is a fuck up.
Doesnt leave much time for rushing into burning buildings and catching babies dropped out of ten story buildings.

You betcha'!

We were at our most sublime awesomeness shortly before noon today whilst traveling eastbound on rt 29 at Prosperity Ave. Wow! You should have seen how cool we looked! A class "A" pumper travelling at 65 mph through a steady red signal while crossing the double yellow line into the oncoming lane of travel.

Not one to be outdone, My boy cletus, the full time carpenter, part-time fireman oops err.. (I always mess that up cuz, we get to sleep, workout and wash our cars on duty) Was following right behind me doing the same in a full ladder truck although we weren't even responding to a multi-story structure fire! I tell you what, that slack jawed extra chromosome, western maryland cousin fucker, sure is a hoot.

The absolute best part is that we routinely disregard the rules and regulations by not following the state code governing emergency response driving (46.2-920) or our own rules that forbid us from going more than 10 MPH over the speed limit in a our top heavy 50,000 lb candy apple box of rollover death with 1000 gallons of H20 sloshing around in it.

Now f off you mere mortals and "fill the boot" while we panhandle at the height of rush hour inducing gridlock.

We need to block the road cause of retards that blast through the accident area, looking at the totalled cars, almost hitting us and other already injured patients.

Do I think it is extreme at times, yes! BUT if I am placing you or your loved one on the backboard/stretcher, I am sure that you would like to have peace of mind that you wont get slammed into by yet another car.

and as far as driving goes, if people in this area knew how to pull off to the side, and all on the same side, we wouldnt need to hope curbs, cross yellow lines, etc. The law is 15 MPH over the speedlimit, one thing that I am sure most people do WITHOUT being in an emergency vehicle anyways.

We are not all perfect and certainly many hired FF's are not very "good" at what they do.

As for the other idiots posters complaining about the trucks blocking the road, clearly you are so much more qualified to determine the need of traffic control. I'm sure you too have had years of experience at accident scenes.

As for people pulling over for the sirens, I"m astonished at how driver's around here ignore emergency vehicles. People here are assholes when it comes to allowing emergency vehicles access. Want to see how you're supposed to do it? Go to Phoenix. When sirens are heard, EVERYONE in EVERY DIRECTION pulls over to a stop until AFTER the emergency vehicles have passed their area. And yes, that includes cars on adjacent streets, etc. It is possible, but clearly, as the earlier posters on here have demonstrated, many of the people around here are entirely too self-absorbed and selfish to follow the law.

Whine and bitch, and cry some more. The Fairfax Co Fire Dept is among the country's best, so if that was you, I am sure you wouldn't be complaining about the response, and whatever had to be done. Typical Fairfax crying, grow a pair instead of giving those who do a stressful job every day, and do it well, a break.

Wow. I'm stunned. You don't realize how many firefighters die a year in traffic accidents. Precautions are precautions. They are taken seriously because everybody wants to go home to their families at the end of the day. You public safety bashers need to take a step back and realize how selfish and pathetic you sound. Don't worry though, we still make your LIFE and PROPERTY our priority and it's the reason we love our jobs, and our lives.

Like you really ever communicate closely enough with any of them to say they all act that way. There's a certain amount of attitude that is necessary for the job in order to get idiots like you to actually pay attention. Ever talk to a cop during a traffic stop? Plenty of ego and arrogance there, and no there's no humility. Cause a "humble" cop or firefighter wouldn't be listened to by any number of people and that might cause a lot more issues than you getting all bent because they didn't treat you like the royalty you think you are.

I have to disagree there. Having 20 some years of experience living here, I have to say that my encounters with them have been great. They've saved a lot of lives in just my neighborhood alone, and I'm even considering working with the department on a part-time basis while I finish schooling. I have nothing but respect for the FFs and EMTs.

Humility and inflated egos?

Seriously?
This is northern virginia for fuck's sake. How are they any different than the entire fucking population of self centered "me first" pricks that they serve?

Need an example? Go partake in the rush hour commute and see how humble and ego-less the typical fairfax resident is.

That youtube clip is classic!, spot on too. Hey uh, did you see that mechanism of injury? HAHHAHAHA

Newsflash, these douche nozzles(pun intended) don't actually save anyone's house. They just sit outside and put water on it. In the biz it's called "surround and drown". REAL firefighters actually go inside with a charged deuce and a half and try to save the structure.

That lit up spinning dildo drying rack these pogues have on the front of their truck must hypotize them into thinking they're DCFD or something.

I bet if grabass, gribble, greedo or whomever the fuck the webmaster is checks the IP addresses, they return to Fairfax County. PATHETIC.

The problem isn't with the fire department, the problem is with the idiot distracted drivers and red light runners and tailgaters who cause the accidents in the first place.

The criticism of the fire department reminds me of the accident on HOV many years ago where a woman was ejected from her vehicle and laying in the road. Some assholes were upset that she wasn't pulled to the side so drivers could proceed.

It's like pilots carrying a pistol;
it's a fucking insane remote chance that they'll get shot down let alone survive
but if they do it provides them the protection they need

same dice with Firefighters, the Police, and EMT

I think there is a difference between a home on fire and an accident where the cops have already moved the cars off the road,

I lived near a FFx fire guy a few years back. He had personalized tags something that was abreviated for life saver. He had shit all over his yard that a hero lives here and bumper stickers all over his truck about fire fighters savings lives. I later learned he rode a desk in the fire department and wasnt exactly liked by his fellow workers for his egotistical attitude.

I lucked out yesterday. I was passing Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home and they were having what I guess was a huge firehero funeral. They had a huge flag hung from two ladder trucks at the entrance and police and fire vehicles all over the place.

Just as I went by, I heard the bagpipe music start. 30 seconds later and I'd have been stuck there for a fucking hour while these bozos played their stupid games.

Anybody know who died and how? Most likely some fat fuck that had one too many cheeseburgers at the firehouse.

They hate the taxpayer, that's why they do what they do, it's a them vs. us thing.

They know that most people over the age of ten see them for what they are---losers sucking the public teat. So to get back at us, they block traffic, panhandle, and other nonsense that anybody else would be arrested for.

Then when your house catches fire, your home is being burglarized while you lay in bed or one of your loved ones is choking or having a heart attack, dont be a hypocrite and call 911...deal with it on your own. Why would somebody of your stature dare to have one of these low life blue collar workers in your humble home.

You people would bitch about a free meal and it is pretty sad to think that such selfish people exist, but this is the ME generation.

God forbid if people want to pay their respects to a person that has never met your selfish ignorant ass but would risk his/her life to save yours.

I think North Korea would better suit the type of life you are wanting to live.

Geez what a load of BS, death and destruction. What planet are you on. You work for a department where employees can go years without working a real fire, You arent NYFD so stop pretending. Construction in Fairfax is for the most part new and has the most recent in fire prevention. While there are home fires it is usually caused by some idiot burning candles or using a torch to lay in plumbing. Admit the truth you are ticks who ride off the coat tails of real firefighters.

It used to be that volunteer firefighters were called "ticks," and now suburban career firefighters are being called ticks...

Shall we assume you're a retired NYC, or say, Detroit career firefighter, since you obviously sound like a "real" firefighter

Why do people feel the need to come on here just to push buttons? Are they lonely trolls sitting in their parents basement? Get out and do something productive.

No you would be surprised at what I do but it disgusts me when members of the deparmtment run around with their chests pumped out claiming they are heroes. How about some modesty, no one told you to take the job so dont bitch and moan to me about your suggested dangerous work.

Do your job and you get paid, if you expect anything more then you are in the wrong profession.

Lots of them go out on disability before they ever work a real fire.

We're probably paying thousands of the lazy sumbitches for life by now. I live across the street from one of them. That cocksucker just built an addition on his house by himself. Disabled my ass.

It's not that hard to figure out how many of these posts are from the same person. Wow, I feel bad for you but what you need to realize is that only 1 out of 200 actually get a job offer after applying. You need to get over it and not take their rejection so personally. It doesn't mean you're a bad person just because they said no. Now run long and stop hating all firemen because of your tiny little shortcomming. They probably won't take your wife away, it's o.k., relax. You can always become a volunteer, that might make you feel better. No they're not FDNY but they do protect 1.1 million people accross 400 square miles so maybe there is something there to be proud of. Good luck and if you don't want to join them as a volunteer, I wish you a tremendous amount of luck with your therapy.

LOLOL. Unless I could start as chief, there's no way I could afford to take one of these jobs. What do they pay, 40-50K a year? I owe the IRS more than that every year. Plus, at age 60, I'd probably be turned down as too old.

That 1 in 200 figure is surprising though. I had no idea there were that many losers in Fairfax County. Maybe that's the key, FD applicants aren't from Fairfax County. I know the Great Recession has hit WV and rural areas of VA pretty hard, but I had no idea.

I knew a guy who worked for FCFD. He was always the first in line when a local restaurant had one of those fire fighter appreciation days. Other times he was in there demanding a discount for being a fireman. Its too bad he spent so much time in the bars telling BS stories about cathing babies falling out of buildings on fire. Because while he was in there one of his fellow "brothers" on the fire department was leaving his DNA in the guys wife.

This may be off topic a bit but I find it to be relevant and if you have the same brain cell I do, maybe you'll be able to elaborate.

To those of you with the opinion that the FD are "tax robbing mooches," do you consider the majority of the US Military to be in the same boat?

It's like a federal level of the same thing. Perhaps worse. Is it possible that people join the FD/Military for the benefits, perks, pay?

I'm not talking about the obvious true blue characters who are in it for the right reasons. The front line folks in the military and the real firefighters do hard work and I commend that. But even in the FDNY (or NYFD as you non-lingoists know it) there are slow stations and houses where no fire happens for weeks at a time. The military also has plenty of spots to "hide out in."

Have you ever considered that? Or are you just bandwagoning with a few complaining taxpayers?
