According to the salary, there is a spiff for the inspector.

Why the fuck did I go to college? I didn't know I could make $100K checking people's brakes and tires and reading an emissions machine.

Wow, remind me to stay the fuck away from that inspection station.

I don't think one person could even bring in that kind of money annually solely on the inspection fees ($16 &/or $28 a pop).

They must do a LOT of rejections for chicken shit stuff in the hope that they'll get the "repair" job.

This can't be right. WashingTone assures me that small businesses have nowhere near this kind of payroll capacity. I'm thinking typo here.

The place is:

Smoketown Exxon
13505 Minnieville Rd
Woodbridge, VA 22192

I have a mind to forward this to VA... it is obvious there is financial incentive in place for failing cars here.

I have a feeling the state requirements to become a safety inspector make that job a very lucrative job.

It just like becoming an Oracle DBA. It's not a hard job, but having the certification guarantees the holder of the certification a good paying job.

Or a TS/SCI clearance -- you can be a secretary, and with a TS/SCI you'll make $90,000 a year to answer the phone and do some light filing.

I didn't say the inspector didn't deserve good pay. My problem is that the job posting says that the more you fail vehicles and steer business to the shop, the higher pay you will get.

State inspections are such a scam. Where I bought my car they give out free inspection coupons but I doubt I'll ever use one, they have to find a lot of rejections to make that cost effective.
