Driving while "texting"?
Posted by: Gerald McLean ()

I got a ticket for driving while texting. The only problem is, I was checking my calendar and not texting. I've printed my phone records and there's no texts on my phone log during the time of the traffic stop. What are my chances in court? FWIW, I was in stop and go, bumper to bumper Lisa Baden-style on I-66 and not doing 97mph as I've seen others do.

Does the ticket say "driving while texting" or something more along the lines of "failure to pay full attention"?

"But your honor! I wasn't texting! I was messing with my phone's calendar."

"You are so stupid."

u were checking ur phone while driving. it's illegal. don't do it again. u could have died or killed someone else and whatever u were checking on ur calendar would have been useless if u were too dead to make it there, huh?

for realz. someone should take that phone and shove it down the OP's throat. I would like to buy that cop some doughnuts.

It seems to me, at the end of the day, with all that being said, that's not necessary.

I don't see what all the hype is about. I can send an email, smoke, eat a Mexican Pizza and drive stick shift all day. It's not like you can move faster than 15mph around here anyway. Maybe if there was half as much attention put into fixing these here haw roads as there is into Mickey Mouse enforcement...

Are you under 18? If not then you MIGHT be the charge. That still doesn't mean that what you were doing was ok.

Well, checking your calendar isn't illegal and texting is a secondary offense... Thank god you aren't a judge.

WRONG, not illegal to look at your phone while driving in Virginia

LOL, it's always fun to see how people justify their behavior to themselves. "Well at least if I rear-end someone in heavy traffic because I don't feel like keeping my eyes on the road, it won't kill them -- it'll just be a major inconvenience for them. Sweet!"

You're a true idiot.

Concentrate on driving, asshole...that cop probably saved someone's life, and I don't mean (or care) about yours...

I knew someone who was given a ticket for eating fried chicken while driving. Alas, don't know what the ticket actually was for (maybe eating with twe hands?) but I thought it was amusing when she mentioned it.

=========

In other news, yesterday I was driving up to an intersection/red light. The car in the next lane was stopped about two car lengths back from the white line as the driver putzed around with her phone...I simply don't get the need to use a phone AT ALL while driving.

[I've been in a situation where a driver, for whatever reason, was WAY back from the white line to the point that the car was NOT over the traffic sensor wires. The light did NOT change green (turning lane) for two complete cycles before I lost patience, got out of my car, walked three cars forward, and told the 1st driver to move forward]
