UPDATE: Crash Victim Identified
The victim in the Tysons Corner-area fatal crash has been identified as Kil Sun Flom, 59, of Dale City.

Crash Reconstruction detectives determined before Flom was struck by the pumper truck, she was attempting to merge from the right lane of Leesburg Pike into the center lane when the two vehicles collided. She pulled slightly forward, exited her vehicle and stepped in front of the truck, but below the driver’s line of sight. The driver, moving forward with the flow of traffic, could not see Flom and she was hit by the truck.

Based on the photo it looks to THIS reader like she attempted to merge at the last moment and everyone to her left simply weren't in the mood to let her in, she got frustrated as she inched closer and closer to a barrier, probably stuck her hand out to get people to stop, they all said "No way!", and finally she got out of her car completely to try to get someone to yield to her with the unfortunate results.

That is to say, when you want to merge into rush hour traffic you do NOT wait til the end of the merging area to do your merging...

Well...no - as implied by that poster, there already is a well-discussed-complete-with-photos thread about this.
