Phenomenon?

We were driving down Danbury Forest Drive in Springfield, after the speed bump and before you hit Braddock Road. We saw something that we could only size up as a phenomenon; I don’t want to say a ghost because it wasn’t in the shape of a human form.
We were on our way to dinner last Friday night November 7, 2008. When we saw a low spiral haze that went across the road, there is no crossing there. Lake Accotink Trail is on the Right and some houses high on the hill to the left and power lines run through there.
I came out of no were, we actually put the brakes on for a moment before we went through it. We turned around and came back and it wasn’t there. We could describe what we saw but it made no sense.

This may be filed in Off-Topic but it happen in the county of Fairfax.

I tutor a kid who lives right where you're talking about off of Danbury, so I know where you're talking about. Pay no mind to these assholes, and please fill me in on more details. I'm interested to know more about this.

Probably fog or smoke of some sort.

If you've ever driven in an open jeep or a convertible, you'll notice that it can be fairly warm on most of the road, but then you go into a dip in the road and you'll feel a colder air hanging low in the depression.

Fog and even smoke from people's fireplaces can collect in those colder depressions.
