"Original" Five Guys has closed

Okay, so it wasn't the original, but the oldest Five Guys around. At the corner of Rt. 7 and Beauregrd - drove by today and saw it gone. Parking was always bad there, it was tricky to get in and out of with all the traffic and goddamn Mexicans.

+1. The TGIFriday's across the street was/is a show, constant Alexandria police presence even while off-duty ACPD patrolled in parking lot and stood inside the door.

The "Bodega Zone" used to be the intersection of Rt. 7 and Columbia Pike, now it's headed eastward at the dizzying pace!

Once the Alexandria/Mt. Vernon Ave. bodegas unite with the FFX Rt. 7 bodegas, it will be "muy loco/muy peligroso"!

Lock your doors Gringos!

Bodega Bob - out!

That TGIF used to be pretty good, now it is full of colored people. I saw the Sports Junkies do a live show from there in their early days in the 90s. Don't judge me, it was before they all came out of the closet.

Hate to break the bad news but original 5 Guys was at Glebe Road and Columbia Pike next to the old Brenner's Bakery. Opened in 1986. Small place, no seating. It was amazing when it opened

He means that it is a television program, like the Cosby Show or Matlock. I think.

They were having trouble getting the 18-wheelers in to deliver grease for the fries and had to shutdown.

And they used the Brenner's rolls. I worked around the corner from there, discovered it right about when it opened. One of the Guys had a hot girlfriend for a while who also worked there -- another bonus when picking up lunch!

The Five Guys on Rt 7 was the first I ever went to. And I rember there sales pitch was the Brenner's rolls but never knew they were next door to the 1st location.

I have had hamburgers from Korean places Courthouse market in Fairfax on Rt 123 sold several years back, and tried to tell them to do the 5 Guys style burgers. Yahoo Mart at Kingstown Center. the Yahoo place started to go down the tubes, A Korean lady with her small deli in the corner was all that was keeping it open, I saw all the inventory selling off and not replaced. I knew they were in trouble. I told her several times she should start selling hamburgers like 5 guys, She had a great grill with a vent , French fryers, a stainless table Deli counter sandwhich assembly area, everything to assemble burgers in her area like 5 Guys. All she needed to do was set up a sign for real hamburgers and use fresh ground beef instead of the frozen junk. I gave her a 5 dollar bill and told her to go to the 5 guys on Rt 1 in Alexandria or Springfield or any of them buy a hamburger take it apart look at it taste it a little and watch how they did it and copy them. Ft Belvoir and a 1000 troops were across the street I told her but alas she stayed with the same old freeze burger and finally had to close up. Oh well. In a sense I may myself missed a million dollor op..

That's a shame. I used to live right there, and in college we would hit that Five Guys all the time.

one less NY, NY franchise. wow. hopefully a locally owned place opens.

very risky area to open a business, has been 20 yrs. restraunts open and close in Fairfax continually. and circuit city. radio shak a few times. office depot. major retailers in mall.

probably becuase all our tax money is stolen before it gets a chance to be spread around and spent by most people.

hard since democrats took over, began ripping and stealing, and jobs began being un-sustainable pay in the area, the average guy couldn't afford it and the gov worker has other haunts: which is like 20 yrs ago

You don't know a damn thing about Five Guys do you?

That location was the second one opened by the chain, which was and still is based in Northern Virginia. And it was owned by the original starters of the chain, who all went to TC Williams high school (except, presumably, dad)

The lot next to the departed 5G's is the old Jefferson Hospital, been gone at least a decade now. A Harris Teeter is coming soon along with a road widening and beautification project.

That was the store on the end of the strip mall on Beulah, right? That place always saddened me... it just screamed out that it could be so much better than it was. It had the look and feel of the sort of hole-in-the-wall mom & pop place that would be a real hidden treasure. But they served up nothing remotely interesting.

The Triads who supplied her meat probably would not let her change. If she tried, they would burn her store to the ground or sell her daughters into prostitution.
