SOL Percentile Scores?
Posted by: parent... ()

Hope someone can point me in the right direction for this. Is there a place to map the numeric score that FCPS provides for SOL's to determine a percentile ranking in the overall tested population?

it's well known SOL means Shit Out of Luck

it's coined by democrats "unionized gov" workers driving lexus to terrorize children. they are always bossing and blaming the kids. they aren't even worth hiring as baby-sitters that lot.

The only reason that Prince William continues to score higher than Fairfax is the fwct that we deal with a higher percentage of EASL kids.

That's because PW got smart and started looking into their "EASL" problem and those folks moved to FFX and made it our problem

Hi-

You can convert an SOL score into a percentile ranking in your child's school, county, and state at the PeerPower website:

http://www.PeerPowerInc.com.

We are the _exclusive_ providers of these percentile rankings due to our participation in the Virginia Longitudinal Data System (VLDS) Apps4VA competition, a program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and run by the Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT). PeerPower recently presented at the VLDS Insights Conference - you can read see our powerpoint in this document on the CIT website:
http://www.cit.org/assets/1/7/C-4_Apps4VA_Apps_Update.pdf

I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the reports and welcome your feedback. Please email me at mnolan@PeerPowerInc.com.

Thanks!

This SOL percentile stuff is meaningless. The tests change, the standards change, the rules for taking it change, and there are retakes upon retakes, etc. None of it means anything. You cannot compare from year to year. It's all political BS.

Hi-

Thanks for your question:

"Is it me or do you want people to pay $24 to get the percentile?"

If you register on the PeerPower website (https://www.PeerPowerInc.com) you get a free percentile, so you do not have to pay for that percentile.

If you want to see percentiles (plural) beyond the first one, yes, we currently charge $24 for 25 percentile reports per year.

We offer a lower price for students who qualify for Free or Reduced Price Lunch.

We offer a 100% Money Back Guarantee. If you are not satisfied we will refund your money, no questions asked.

We mention the 100% Money Back Guarantee and the lower price for students who qualify for Free or Reduced Price Lunch right on our order page:

https://www.peerpowerinc.com/order-access-peerpower-percentile-reports

You may wonder why do I have to pay for percentiles - why doesn't Virginia provide percentiles for free?

We answer that, and many other questions on the PeerPower Questions and Answers page:
https://www.peerpowerinc.com/percentile_reports/questions-answers-qa

I would be happy to answer any other questions you have. You can email me at mnolan@peerpowerinc.com, call me on (571) 250-5958, or use the chat feature on the PeerPower website.

Or if you post them here on Fairfax Underground I am happy to answer questions here too.

Again, thanks for your question and your interest in PeerPower.

Hi-

Maybe I am not going to change the mind of the person who posted:

"None of it means anything. You cannot compare from year to year. It's all political BS."

But for those of you who have an open mind and are willing to _consider_ science and data, please read on.

I'm pretty sure most people would agree that if you do better in school, you are more likely to be better prepared for life after school.

So the question is - do standardized tests accurately measure doing well in school? I think the data shows they are pretty good.

Are they perfect? No, of course not.

Are you or your student more than a score? Of course.

You are more than your blood pressure too, but I'm pretty sure you're not going to tell your doctor your blood pressure is useless the next time you go for a checkup.

We are not saying that if your student gets a low percentile score, they are doomed for life. Not even close.

But you can read more on the PeerPower website about how peer-reviewed research by Stanford and Harvard researchers show that percentile scores are very powerful predictors of future life events like:

* Graduation from high school
* Attending college,
* Attending a higher quality college
* Graduating college on time, and
* Income after school

We even provide links to news articles covering this research, and if you really want to geek out, you can read the original articles:

https://www.peerpowerinc.com/blog/standardized-test-percentile-scores-9-reasons-why-they-matter

And the Virginia Department of Education published a study that showed that students who did better on SOL Math and Writing tests were much more likely to graduate college:

https://vlds.virginia.gov/media/1015/final_ccr_report_on_enrollment_persistence_and_completion-may_9_2014_updated.pdf

I would be happy to answer any questions you have about PeerPower. You can email me at mnolan@peerpowerinc.com, call me on (571) 250-5958, or use the chat feature on the PeerPower website.
