The FFX police scanner is now gone...
Posted by: lisam1120 ()

Everyday I've been checking to see if the police scanner is back up. It's been offline since 9/8, and I just went to check it and its gone. The only scanner available is the FFX County Fire & Rescue . Anyone know why its been taken down and where I can find it, even if on another app.?

You don't need a Police scanner in Fairfax because in the land of puppy dogs and rainbows there is no crime. So they want you to believe!

Who the fuck promised you the right to listen to police actions?

No one, that is who.

When your daughter is being raped by a few guys at 123 Elm Lane, just for the hell of it - do you want those guys to have access to a scanner that will tell them when the cops are coming to 123 Elm Lane?

pretty soon only obamma will have the password

i told you

the problem with certain kinds of security is:

1) criminals lock out anyone legitimate

2) you have no way of knowing if criminals are watching

why? because "secure systems" do not allow you to see things. they are perfect for an intruder.

what you needs is the coordinates of the offender abusing the system. you can then go to stop the abuse.

(you have to know what abuse is, prosecute legally first, neither which will work with a broken la courthouse anyway)

in other words: your fake cops now , working for la familia

this is problem with (ie kerberos, de) or more modern security

by design certain sets are prevented from know what other sets are doing becaseu they "have more power"

thus you either end up locked out (because your boss sold you to a foreigner) OR a crim is on the system spoof you: you don't know who's on the system doing what or who's bitch you are

it's a design hurdle that is far from being solved - that adding security can make a system far more fallible with just a single bit of error anywhere in the whole system

sure they'll solve it: in terms of a hundred years, yea, if they ever want to solve it

it's far different from Englands cpu security in old tube computers, seven tiered, ...

which was for protecting vacuum tubes from going bad due to mistakes in software ... a totally different reason and job completely.

but today's security software works on the same principal, which is problematic

Do you happen to know why these feeds are being taken down? I know that almost a year ago the DC police scanner was taken down due to the fact that the criminals were listening to the scanners and were able to get rid of they're drugs and guns after they heard that raids were about to take place at they're location. It was becoming harder for the police to execute raids and or arrests, so they decided to take down the public ability to listen to the scanners. The only one left up was the fire department and now it seems as though Fairfax may be following in they're footsteps.

I guess the only way to find out for sure what is truly going on is to call the Police Dept. which I suppose I will do tomorrow and see what I can find out. Once I know, I will post back with what I find out.

I'm listening now to police sirens, and now a helicopter not too far off in the distance and it sucks, because I cant hear what is going on.

Why do people on here keep talking about this like it's some kind of conspiracy and they are entitled to free services that other people setup.

I'd guess it's down because someone didn't have the time and energy to keep it broadcasting. If you want it up so bad, go connect a police scanner to to your computer and upload it and share it. Chances are you don't have the slightest clue on how to even begin to do that.. so why do you think there's an army of people out there at your disposal to set it up for you to listen in on?

Moving to encrypted radio comms are how you keep things confidential. Taking down a website that's broadcasting what you can still get with a radio is not an effective means of keeping people from listening in. No one things taking an Internet broadcast of something you can still listen to with a scanner is going to provide any real prevention.

Is there a reason that your being such a dick about a simple question????
Nobody said anything about a conspiracy, so not sure where that theory came from.... maybe your not familiar with smartphones or apps, but just so happens that there are thousands of FREE apps and the scanner happened to be one of them, so therefore its available to the public for FREE jackass. So I hardly think the other thousands that used the app or myself ever thought we were entitled or that there was an army at our disposal to create another scanner app just for me or the others. You did get one thing right though..... I have no clue how to set an app up..... wanna be my bitch and set it up for me??

of course. but you broadcast what police do and then criminals *might* know where they are thus where criminals can get away with crimes (depending on what is broadcast, and if cops use coded language while speaking)

so first they add scramblers. but theives get scramblers. so they add "security". and tada ! it's the perfect dictator's military police system your complaining of

there is no good way currently

for example. if i say "bannana" it means the suspect had a stiffy when talking to the 911 operator, code 1050-bananna

well maybe there are some things you don't really need codes for

Considering it was a reply at large and to many people above (and the other numerous threads on the topic -- good job btw on posting another).. maybe you should avoid getting your panties in a wad. Now I'll reply directly to you, since you are being an asshole and are showing your status as a mental midget. Snarky replies about being familiar with smartphones or apps just shows how inept you are on the topic. Since you don't see to be very bright I'll help you out. Your "app" just connects into feeds that are being broadcast on the Internet. Your app doesn't magically connect into radio frequencies. The feeds you connect to are being shared by people that have taken the time to upload to the Internet. I am surprised you can even post on this forum. Congratulations on accomplishing that task.

All the BS aside, all I wanted to know was if anyone knew why the scanner had been removed, taken down, stopped, destroyed... whatever you want to call it, and if there was another app or site that I and many others that used the same app could go use to listen to FFX County Police????? Really simple questions & there is always someone that has to turn such a easy answer into a huge debate or debacle. Now... can anyone tell me if there are other apps that carry the FFX County Police live feed?????? Thank you.

It's a compatibility issue. FCPD and other agencies in the county have switched to a new radio system with different repeaters and such. This impacts how the scanners are able to capture the frequencies. It's now an encrypted digitial feed.

Think about how Verizon Fios is configured and how you can't just plug in to get cable anymore. Even if you plug in the wire to the TV and have the TV auto-program the channels, you only get a couple random channels and not anything useful. Basically, the same concept.

That's a "false flag" signal. Its broadcasting a recorded tape. Its being done to make people feel better and safe.

Don't believe me...it loops every 48 hours. Listen to it for 48 hours straight and you will see what I mean.

Where is it up and running? When I go to any of my 6 scanner apps, it says streaming, but there is nothing but silence. I left all of them running for ,5 hours yesterday and not a sound, not even hissing. To make sure it was not me, t changed the channels to Fairfax county fire/rescue, that worked fine.
So as far as I can see, nothing is working for FFCP. Loop or not, I get nothing.

We have a police department which isn't held accountable for cold-blooded, plain-as-day murder, and now we are losing a major source of information about what they are doing. Yes it is a big deal.

Fairfax County Police and Fire use the same radio system.

Fire and rescue are not on same radio as police. I have been listening to fire/rescue since police went down in early September. I would love to have a "real" scanner, but $300 -$500 for basic model not in the budget right now.

I have a better question, why don't YOU "just" run down and buy a scanner?

The last time I checked, which was a few years ago, a scanner model that would work with what FCPD uses was north of $500. How about you go buy one and set it up for the rest of us, instead of peppering us with questions, complaints, and demands of action by others? YOU do it.

The scanner model used is the PSR-800, you'd be lucky to spend $400 for a used model. New retail is more like $700.

I ran the boris.serveirc scanner for quite a few years. However, when Radio Reference put up their scanners people migrated there probably because the teamspeak software was kind of an odd duck and tricky to get it to work.

I still think the reception that I have is superior to the RR feeds. It should be. I am using a top-of-the-line scanner and have an antenna mounted up pretty high.

Now that the police scanner on RR for FFX has pretty much gone down I am thinking of feeding through them. Its a good deal for me because I get the frequency data for the scanner from them for free.

I recognize your username terrysb from prior threads on the topic... if you (again) became the savior of the FCPD feed that would be a huge public service.

It's a compatibility issue. FCPD and other agencies in the county have switched to a new radio system

how many fire control electrical systems are there that are part incompatible again?

i need lessons...

After looking into broadcasting through Radio Reference I decided that putting the feed there wouldn't be that great. RR won't let me broadcast any of the tactical channels.

The tac channels are where most of the good stuff happens - like being able to hear one of FFX finest huffing and puffing while he's in pursuit or the time one of them got bit by their own dog...

I plan to put up my own feed again but this time using something that is easier to access. It could take a little bit of time to get it going. Look here for further info. I'll post when its up again.

why are you masturbating over listening to police?

why do you not have a life and spend time doing something so useless?

what is missing in your life that you feel a need to broadcast others lives?

So if I understand what you are saying...its not the police doing something to the scanners as yours is working just fine...its the apps people are using as scanners.

I'm not sure I understand quite what you are saying. To receive FCPD and other local emergency services you need a scanner capable of scanning trunked radio systems. You also need a decent antenna mounted as high as possible to get reliable coverage. I have both. Finally, to rebroadcast over the internet it is necessary to use software that streams the audio so people can use applications like windows media player to listen to the broadcast.

I have everything that is required and had it running for quite a few years. I took the broadcast down when only a few people were actually using the service. I have to set things up again now that RR no longer has a good FCPD feed and never will because of the limitations in what they allow to be re-broadcast.

Terrysb, you would be a saint if you could do that, I love listening to the police calls, I had the app running in the background 24/7 at home, it became my whitenoise while working. I really miss it. I also have numerous family and friends on the force, I love hearing them over the air. I know some on here will make cracks about it, but I have learned over the years to take joy when you can find it, the little things help.

So this old lady would be grateful if you could get the stream going again, very grateful.

If I was to purchase a scanner and ask cary if he could permanently stick it on the top with a hyperlink how would I go about doing this? Minus the scanner and a new laptop what kind of software would I need and how would I host/broadcast the channel? Im computer illiterate.

I'm sure everyone would be very greatful if you could manage this. I'm sure there are tutorials which would show you how to broadcast your specific model to a live stream.

Also terrysb, if you could get your scanner up and operational, I might be able to provide bandwidth/hosting. It would be a really generous thing for you to setup your radio for us again!

Nothing illegal about using open market equipment to resend radio signals over the internet that are broadcast in the open. Now if you charged money or resent it over radio channels...this may have legal issues but I suggest checking with a lawyer first.

boris was AWESOME - thank you. teamspeak was okay. I would be very greatful if we could get something like boris back. I used to live across the street from an elementary school with my kids in it and I greatly appreciated knowing what was going on when equipment would roll up.

Another time they were in persuit of a burgler in my hood very near my house and I tuned in after the helicopters started. I could do a lockdown thanks to the info.

Good to see you are beginning to figure it out. Yes, the feeds are provided by people who will spending the time and money to get it working, those volunteers to "just go buy one". No, FCPD isn't blocking anything.

You are a total dumb ass. My point over and over was the "issue" with peoples scanners had nothing to do with anything the county government was doing but the people in control of the apps listeners were using. Terrysb confirmed this. I hope he gets his back up and running.

So how did I fail?

Lets see how my advice was wrong on this one. Do you know anything about dealing with the FCC? Its not something I am to familiar with but I do know their fines they issue are in the $1000s. I also know there are several law suits working their ways through courts reference people "selling rebroadcasts" on the internet of TV/radio signals "belonging" to others.

So my advice for the poster to consult with a lawyer if he planed to "sell" the rebroadcast is pretty sound advice. Its much cheaper to ask real legal advice from a lawyer before he breaks the law then pay for a defense lawyer in federal court. Maybe the FCC could answer the questions if he asked.

And I would really like to know what local gym you go to where you have never seen a fat person at. I would really like to come visit as it never fails, there is always at least one fatty wearing spandex on the treadmill while I am at the gym.

You are so stupid that you don't even know why I quoted that as an example of your shitty credibility. Hint: it had nothing to do with fat people at a gym.

I really miss listening to the FFCP feed. I was using an app, since they went down in early September I have been searching for another way to listen. I have come to the sad realization that I am going to hAve to spend the money for a scanner. I only want to listen to the fairfax county police and maybe fire/rescue. The Uniden public safety receiver (homepatrol) says I just have to put in my zip code and it will find my station(s).

I know nothing about programming, or anything else needed to work a scanner, but I can put in a zip code. My question to those of you kind folks on here is Will this work for what I want?

If not, what will.

Be nice please, I am not real techno savy. Actually I really stink at technology, putting in my zip is close to my limit.

Help?

Not sure how long it'll be around, but I've setup a new scanner feed that's available on the Zello iPhone & Android app on a channel called "Fairfax County Police / Fire Scanner".

Get the app and search for Fairfax Scanner and it should show up.

Bear in mind it's going to sound a bit choppy at times - I'm not using a fancy $500 digital scanner, but rather a pair of <$20 USB tv tuners setup as software defined radios and a bunch of open source software, and I haven't gotten the digital decoding quite tuned in yet.

More information on how to setup your own is here and elsewhere online:

Bunch of morons in here that don't understand that police, fire and air traffic feeds online are usually uploaded by private individuals who live close to the transmitters.

Why just just put up an alternative feed via Radio Reference/Broadcastify instead?

Advice... if you say "just" you don't understand the complications, ramifications, or workload associated with what you are proposing. Corollary: if someone asks you why you can't "just" do something, it usually isn't worth the time explaining it to them.

If you DO understand what you are asking, post a link with the process.

I cannot find the app, only zello app I can find is a walkie talkie one.

Yep, the walkie talkie one.

I'm using it right now because it's very easy from the app to go back and listen to a call again, whereas with an mp3 stream you have to sift through a 30 minute block.

At some point I do plan to put up an mp3/aac stream, but I'm more focused on improving the quality of the stream right now. I'm having a hard time getting consistent clean digital voice decoding, so some calls are very choppy.

Whenever I do post a regular stream, it likely won't be available through broadcastify / radio reference for the same reason Terrysb has said - I want to include the ops channels, and broadcastify restricts streams to dispatch channels only.

Thanks for clarification, unfortunately that app will not work on my kindle fire. But it's really nice of you to make it available for the rest. I wish you luck and thank you.

Wow, it's not hard to upload a feed to the net dicks! It's not rocket science. But it is hard to come up with $700 - $1000 to buy the right scanner to pick up the feed to upload. That is unless your a drug dealer or have money coming out your ass. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
