I cannot get enough of Captain Pell's Jumbos. Best around. I don't know why Washingtonian does not rank them tops.

It wasn't the same after it moved out of the run down building on Lee Highway.

Pell's are very good alright but the only special thing about them is the small amounts of time and gas that it takes to get to them. The premier crab houses year after year are in Baltimore and on the eastern shore. Go there and you'll see why.

I mean, saying that Captain Pell's has the best crabs in NOVA isn't saying much. There's really no competition for good blue crabs here. If I'm in the mood for crabs, I'm doing it myself and getting them on the waterfront and bringing them home to cook or I'm going to the Eastern Shore. /thread

As I was going over the Cork and Kerry Mountains. I saw Captain Pell and his money he was countin'. I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier.
I said "Stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya". I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny.

Agreed. While their newer facility is more upscale and comfortable, there was just something about the run down shack, and the taste of the food. Complete agreement.

I'll just go to the DC wharf and get my crabs for $10-20 a dozen cheaper, thanks.

Pells has great food, decent service, and acceptable but on the high end prices, and they seem to be packed most nights and weekends. Too bad they don't use their profits to replace those shitty chairs they have, if those chairs get any worse they're going to have people sitting on milk crates and trash cans.

Total agreement with the Baltimore comments. Most crab places in VA pretty much pale in comparison. Their problem is how they season here; they don't use enough Old Bay, and even worse they usually put it on after they steam the crabs. You are more likely to get over cooked crabs in VA as well.
