DULLES, Va. - A routine check of passenger names coming in on an overseas flight to Dulles International Airport has netted a man wanted in a local rape case.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were doing a routine check of passenger manifests when they found the name Augusto Montalvo on a flight from Bolivia Saturday. Montalvo, of Springfield, Va., was wanted for aggravated sexual battery in Fairfax County.
Department of Homeland Security spokesman Steve Sapp says officials then checked with Fairfax County to see if Montalvo was still wanted.
"We confirmed Augusto Montalvo's identity once he arrived at Dulles and then we turned him over to local authorities," Sapp says.
Sapp says Montalvo, who is 54 and a legal resident of the United States, is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Fairfax County in January.
He faces one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of animate object sexual penetration. Sapp says Montalvo faces possible deportation if convicted.
