The "Grass Tracks" on General Washington Drive, the industrial where Marlo and other building supply, furniture stores, etc. are now located next to I-395 and Edsall Road.

Good Times!

Butts Corner....123 and Chapel rd...early 70s per my dad

Also, where target is now by the train station in Burke used to be all woods before Roberts rd bridge and target existed....used to be a toke spot for early 70s Robinson heads.

As far as "legal" drag racing tracks, you'd have to go to southern Maryland. The track in Manassas shut down as they sold the property to a developer.

As to other "not legal" drag spots? I'm sure there are not really any left either. All the roads are clogged. Instead, the teens tend to prefer "hill hopping" in the area of Great Falls and Clifton.

I also remember Fairfax Circle in the late 1980s. Where the Lamb Center is now next to the Shell station, the building used to be a car audio shop. I still wish it was a car audio shop.

In the late 70's there was a Head Shop called Record Lords in the sme building that the Lamb Center is in today. The gas station was a ARCO Station, and both were beside Sweenies Motor Court.

Back in the late 70's, early 80's some of our favorite hangout spots were:

Springfield Mall, around both arcades and gotta see if there's any cool new junk at Hong Kong.

Skyline Mall for midnight movies and there was a small arcade there for a while too.

Playtime and Flipper McGee's arcades in Falls Church city.

Loehmann's Plaza for cruisin'

And most importantly, highschool keg parties! Back then the drinking age was still 18 for beer and wine so seniors could by kegs....ah the good old days.

The triple feature was Last House On The Left, Don't Look In The Basement, and some South American revolution exploitation pic with some young American tourists with nice titties. There may have been a prison chick exploitation flick on the same bill.

Grew up in West Springfield. Really, tons of kids had parties at their parents houses. Every Friday, after football games, we'd meet up at the McDonalds on Rolling and then find out who was having the party and where and then we'd drive all over looking for it. That was part of the fun. Lots of parties off of Carrleigh Parkway in Rolling Valley and even way out towards Huntsman Blvd.

Lots of parking/drinking on side roads, especially Huntsman Dam, Burke Lake, Tuttle Road, to name a few.

HoJo's in downtown Springfield was open all night, as was Denny's. That's where you'd tell your parents you'd been all night if they asked.

"where did teens go to hang out/party way back in the 60's-80's?"

in the 90's northern fairfax was likely one of the most boring developed areas one could be in.

i would have fallen in in the 1990's for hangouts. but it was mostly private / in home deals. and i'm not the only person who observed that.

fairfax city area during the late 80's 90's, due to "zero tolerance" was a bleak place of fau morals to be in. adults were doing allot of fucking and stealing money. they arrested anyone young wishing to do the same to, ie, start a family.

all they had in the 90's in fairfax was bars. not even bare breasts allowed. 99% guys (cp near zero chance of getting a date in a bar). high chance of being arrested. if you wanted a date it was a better chance to be at a grocery store. thanks to police i never had time for even that.

the police were continually at private parties, crashing arresting people at those too.

in the 90's northern fairfax was likely one of the most boring developed areas one could be in. and the most likely for you to be arrested or harassed by police if you were just heading to work or class.

HOWEVER. 80's and early 90's. different town. police were nice then. let you off with a warning. some partied a little. etc. but that was not my time really i only heard and saw news and town talk back then.

the late 90's began the "me generation" of adults in fairfax

they were double dipping big time.

they were destructive and sought to put an end to anyone having fun they wanted for themselves

they were trying to prevent young adults from starting families: calling it evil

they were SUCCESSFUL at stealing themselves a second, and now a third, childhood. they tripled their pay and billed it to my generation: who some of died in the debt of. they moved gov technology into private firms which they had had access to for free as well.

triple: like you'd have a sexy school teacher making more money than the captain of a major navy ship just years ago. and the captain? suffering inflation loss and struggling becasue there is no way to adjust for that kind of illegally high. it's theft clear and simple.

meanwhile they were telling my generation: sorry, hiring freeze. whilst they were giving their family members cush gov jobs.

(2nd childhood: gets stuff for free, ie non-necessities, and enjoys what they did not sweat to make and enjoys light penalties for wrongs and gets money from ma and etc: on the dole. skaters. free-loaders)

alan greenspan told congress: back off your living in a tech bubble.

10 yrs later they called him back to the floor and publicly blamed him for not warning them

tv and radio today is a pile of crap. a pile of Seoul City Sue crap. they only put on stories that helps gov unionized workers hold their story.

i'm not saying anything nice about late 90's 2000's. see me in court. the judges recused. though that's a whole nother set of complaints

Man this is a great thread. I grew up in Centreville in the 90's and remember there was nothing to skate. We would always build our own ramps but asshole neighbors would steal them so we wouldn't skate near their homes. We did have the arcades. I remember the closest was flip dizzy in Manassas.

I was one of the riding hooligans out route 1 grabbing beers and running from high's and 711's and hopping on my bike parked around the corner and going to a friend's house successful. i was likely at that party you went to somewhere down route 1 with a beer in hand since 14 years old, my old man didn't care as long as i kept my grades up so i could go to college and earned my own gas money for the bike, but it only cost $2 to fill back then so it wasn't hard...in exchange for a cold 6 pack when i got home the old man would overlook how late it was and covered for me to mom- thanks man.

My kid would get caught today, too may cameras and overzealous police :(

Where at least one teen would be declared the Mayor of 7-11 , he would be easily spotted, a jobless unemployable long haired dirt bag , pushing weed on younger ones and spare changing people

Today if still alive he's a convicted felon and a solid Democrat voter who still is jobless for long periods and exists on welfare and handouts drunkenly following women who avoided him saying shit like " Ma'am you dropped a smile" waiting for summer again to bum around at the beach spending time here and there in jails
