Any backyard or local baseball field, don't worry, the authorities are down with it. People use the pitcher's mound to do jumps.

Yeah we're kind of not into that here in Fairfax County. Try Prince William or Stafford counties. Or go down to Harrisonburg or over to Winchester... probably lots in Winchester/Front Royal area.

check out the link below... I have not been there and make no claims to its accuracy, there is a trail off Reservoir Road near Beaver-dam Reservoir ...

Being from PGH I miss the 4wheel'n in my big hillbilly truck I used to own...

As a lifelong resident of this county, it is sad to see all the "good spots" dry up - or worse, become developed...

The Hayfield pits, Loisdale pits - the land in between 29 and 66 where the new Govt. Center / mall sits :(

...even Compton Road, old Pohick woods and most of Rt 123's side roads s. of Burke Lake were good ;)

We used to go all over the county - Even bonfires were "legal" in the fields ;)

Now we have a bunch of folks who "just don't get it" living here - NIMBY wimps!

Good luck w/ the search for trails! :-)

Peters Mill Run is the only good trail I know of. It's not that close. It's out past Front Royal in GW Forrest. It's can get pretty crowded, especially on holiday weekends.

Google returns a few decent links which also reference other related trails:

You can't ride those at Buke Lake Park. Only regular bikes and people are allowed on the trail.

Bonfires were held all over - we generally used the old farm house behind Reid's Farm - long since gone :(

There was an old Reids farm where the CIA headquarters is at now, and there was also a large Reids farm in Franconia too.

Damn, what are the chances that I would happen by 10 years later and someone would have just answered my question? Glory be.
