Gas station on Rolling Road torn down

Anyone know why the gas station next to McDonalds on Rolling Road in West Springfield (across from the Post Office and Whole Foods) is being torn down? What a surprise to see that entire area being razed today.

It is torn down because it closed.

It has to close before it can be torn down due to occupancy rules preceding demolition. You lose.

Here's the staff report from the county, it includes all the information on the plans/transportation-related stuff, etc.

Great link, but a couple of questions. Any idea why it took more than 18 months to see this move forward? How much of the 65 pages is boilerplate and does every development project need this? Who writes these? It seems very labor-intensive and expensive.

Speaking of 7-11, the recently closed Blockbuster in Burke (near Walmart) is being renovated as we speak. While I don't hit 7-11 very often, the nearest one to me is on Lee Chapel which is a bit too far when you in the mood for a Big Bite and a Slurpee.
