Expired Inspection Sticker

Hey, I forgot to get my car inspected on time this year and today I was pulled over and got a ticket for it. A friend of mine claims that if I get it inspected tomorrow and go to my court date showing I got it inspected ASAP, that there is a good chance the judge will drop my ticket and only make me pay court costs. Have any of you done this before?

I have seen them dismissed many times provided it's not over a month expired. Really its not worth the trouble though. The conviction carries no points against your driving record. You may end up sitting in court for hours with a bunch of smelly citizens to get it dismissed.

It depends on the value of your time. For me, taking a day off of work and sitting in court all day made no economic sense. For a day's work I make four or five times what the mail-in fine is for a dead inspection. I just paid it.

You'll only spend a couple of hours in court, tops. Make sure you bring proof of the passed inspection.

Dismiss the ticket yes - but you will still pay the court fees.

I forgot mine (expired in April). I went to court in Arlington last week. It's a breeze. I had a nice breakfast at Bayou Bakery,and the cases moved pretty fast. I was out by 10. I had my papers and the case was dismissed and no court costs. (just a quarter for the locker for my cell phone which wasn't allowed in court.)

you dont even have to show up - just mail it in with proof you did it. if you lose then just do the appeal and it should be dismissed.

I just got busted on 123 just north of the courthouse in Fairfax city. They will waive the $30 fine, but still have to pay the $61 court fees. Not worth the trouble, just pay the fee.

If you're dumb enough to forget to have the vehicle inspected (the sticker is right in front of your eyes) you will probably forget to show up on the court date.

Don't waste your time or the court's. Send the citation (make a copy for yourself and keep it) along with a copy of the inspection certificate and a check for the court costs to the address on the citation. Do it well in advance of the court date.
