Does anyone watch broadcast digital TV? I was thinking of getting an antenna and converter box and trying that out. How many channels can I expect to receiver around here?

Why don't you get cable, FIOS or satellite like the rest of the world?

I receive up to 50 or so. There are a lot of crap/repeat stations though, for instance NBC4 is actually 3 channels. 4-1 (HDTV), 4-2(standard def) and 4-3(useless Bob Ryan weather station). All the major networks have multiple feeds like that, PBS having 5 or so.

On a good day I can get the stations from B-More, so I can watch other football games on Sunday.

Go here to get an idea of what will be available to you and where to point your antenna if you do get one.

I could live without cable if I had a good signal on the networks. The shows that are syndicated on basic cable, I can get on Netflix instant or DVDs. I can watch all the movies I want with Netflix. There are all sorts of shows on the Internet these days.

Obviously someone uses broadcast, or they wouldn't have it.

Actually, they have broadcast because the networks and affiliates have invested too much in their infrastructure and licenses to let it die. In this day and age, there are probably better uses for all of that bandwidth than crap like "Heroes."
