According to the Costco Member Benefits & Costco Services guide (page 12), they do take EBT cards as payment.

Given the savings one can obtain buying food in bulk, I'd advocate giving a free Costco membership to anyone receiving SNAP benefits.

And to Billy Batts, if you have specific knowledge of a store that's selling beer, cigarettes, or lottery tickets in exchange for SNAP benefits, you should report them by calling the Virginia SNAP program hotline at 1-800-552-3431 or the United States Office of Inspector General for the Mid-Atlantic Region at 301-504-2000. Tell the person who answers the phone that you would like to report an incident of SNAP fraud.

Of course since you have no such knowledge other than the ridiculous propaganda you're fed, you will make no such call.

I am surprised that someone who knows so much about SNAP knows so little about the rampant fraud in the program. The easiest scam is to buy diapers, in particular Pampers, which are bartered like currency. The cashiers at our local store regularly laugh at how many people (shall I say which race, or do you already know?) who are clearly not moms buy so many diapers.

I don't claim to know everything about the SNAP program, but I know more than you.

For example, I know you can't buy diapers with SNAP benefits.

I have told you before how it is done but maybe I will try for one last time how you buy beer, lottery tickets and cigarettes using food stamps.

Holder of food stamps get set amount to spend say $400 a month. Holder gets with friends and finds out what kind of food they need at the grocery store. Holder prepares list and goes into grocery store purchasing listed items with food stamp card.

Holder then returns to friends and sells food products to friends at reduced price of purchase. Purchase $400 of food sell to friends for $200. Friends save $200 and holder now has $200 in cash to spend on beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets

Get it because I wont go over this again.

That's right, the cost of living is so high in the county that its difficult to make a living here unless you have more than one income. I myself work two jobs, and my wife works one and its still tough to get by.

There's just a few small problems with your fiction.

One, everyone who's friends with your supposed SNAP abuser is likely to be on public assistance, including SNAP benefits, themselves. Therefore they don't have the cash to pay for the misappropriated food.

Cash in such communities is conserved for things that cannot be bought with public assistance, such as paying rent, paying for electric power, and buying gasoline for their piece of shit hooptie (as well as things like cigarettes, alcohol, and narcotics, I admit).

Two, food is basically worthless once it's been sold by a supermarket or other retailer. No one is going to hand over cash for it. I've heard of instances where restaurants would buy cheese, for example, from food stamp recipients, but they were paying 10 cents on the dollar, not 50, and they got busted for doing it, which is how I know about it.

So, take your average food stamp recipient who gets $400 a month and divide it by ten and they wouldn't even make enough money to buy a carton of Newports.

The truth is that food stamp fraud is down to just 1 percent of the total amount spent on the program.* Now with $78 billion being spent on food stamps, that's still a hefty chunk of change, $780 million, and I am all in favor of busting anyone who does engage in this kind of fraud.

For example, they just indicted 3 guys in Ohio who stole $2 million from the program by allowing people to buy alcohol and cigarettes, as well as giving them cash. The 3 guys were pair of brothers and their buddy who owned 4 stores in the Cleveland area.** I am perfectly fine with those guys all going to prison for a while.

The truth is that 40% of the people who use food stamps work, but their jobs pay such shitty wages that they still can't manage to meet all their expenses, including being able to feed their children.

And the truth is that being poor in America sucks enough that these people don't need people like you finding out ways to make it suck even more.

If you want to have endless slums like Calcutta or Rio de Janerio or Mexico City full of people who are literally fucking starving to death because there's no social safety net, I invite you to go live there.

Not sure how much, but I had a membership back when they were Price Club in this area (yes, I'm an old fart) and it was something like $25. Made up the membership fee in just a few visits based on price comparisons to grocery stores.

And think of the fee as a way of keeping the third world out.
