Carry out Restaurants without air conditioning

In recent months have gone into several restaurants, yes mainly chinese, one italian though, and the joint didn't have air conditioning. Apparently, in most cases the restaurant or store leasing a location in a shopping center is responsible for maintainence of the heat and air conditioning.

Man it was like an effing oven in 2 chinese restaurants I tried. I passed. How could these possible be safe conditions for cooking food? And is the Fairfax County Health Department useless or just overwhelmed?

What would be unsafe? You wouldn't want all of the cooking food to be in a warm room.

Yes, I have noticed this at two different places that I have been to within the last week.

The Pilin Thai in Tyson's, and the Hong Kong Express in Burke.

My guess is that they're trying to cut costs, by turning up the thermostat to a higher temperature, in order to compensate for low sales during the mid-summer months.

At the Hong Kong Express that I visited, it actually felt warmer inside the place, than out.

Maybe it's time for the county to do spot inspections.....
