I predict years of spiraling downward, repeated disappointment, and spotty lackluster performance. I think we were around 19(W) and 13(L) this year. It will be worse than that next year.

Coach Hewitt sucks. Poor leader. He is taking the program totally Ghetto. I foresee player and program trouble ahead. He may have coached 13 players who ended up in the NBA but I bet nobody can remember one of their names because none of them were standouts.

Season tickets - canceled.

Annual donations to GMU athletics - canceled.

BTW: They need to fire Athletic Director, Tom O'Connor, who refused to even discuss or negotiate a better deal with Jim Larranaga when Miami came to court him.

Larranaga just won coach of the year.

Oh, and as a result of losing Larranaga, we also lost Luke Hancock. Luke won MVP for the NCAA Championship game and his new team, Louisville, the National Championship.

Way to go O'Connor!

Mason wanted Larranaga gone, they thought he was becoming to big and dont want to be known as a sports school. If winning was a priority Bill Brown would have been gone long ago

Funny though how they have no problem paying some professions half a mil to teach a single class just to have their name attached to the school but can pay the basketball coach he did more for the schools reputation in 2 seasons than most teachers do in their entire career.

I don't know if Luke would have stayed even if Larranaga had stayed, his coach at Hargrave Military Academy was hired at Louisville prior to Luke transfering.

Mason should have a better team this season since they only graduated 1 player last year (Bryve Lewis, who played like 5 minutes in his career), I predict them to be middle of the pack in the A10 with no chance of NCAA Tournament.

How much of an impact will Jalen Jenkins, Marquis Moore, and Anali Okologi make?
Is Paul Hewitt's 4 out, 1 motion offense to blame for finishing 5th or perhaps Ryan Pearson graduating was the reason? Usually the Atlantic 10 has three spots availible for NCAA Tournament. Perhaps Mason will make NIT?

Good points though, despite having Nobel Peace prize winners, its the Final Four that really made the impact. Pretty much in order for a no name or young school to gain recognition it really does have to come down to sports. Moving to the Atlantic 10 is a good move, but only if Mason puts more money into men's basketball and actually makes tournament appearances.

I'm not sure there's that much of a difference between the Atlantic 10 and CAA at this point. At least from an NCAA bid standpoint.

The CAA has been getting multiple bids (off and on) for a few years now, roughly the same as the A10.

Yeah, being known as a glorified community college is MUCH better.

Too bad they don't play on astroturf, the school board could ask them for money.

Youre only known at that if you let everything else slip because of athletics, theres no reason you can have both. Its not like they have a football team where they have to let in 60 kids that can barely put a page right side up to try and compete for NCAA titles

Agreed, and don't forget to add ODU, JMU, VCU, Longwood, and Radford to that list.

What about the transfer from Georgia Tech, Julian Royal and his chances of leading Mason into a deep run into the NCAA 2015? This guy's a four star recruit, going to be playing for Mason in the 2014-2015 season. Might be first ever Mason player to be drafted into NBA if he is as good as the recruiting evaluations say.

If Hewitt does get fired for underperforming, who should get the head coaching job and turns things around if it is indeed heading downhill?

Trust me there is a huge difference. All the good CAA teams left and there will be 1 bid from this conference for the forseeable future. Once VCU and ODU left, the reputation went way down. The A10 can get as many as 4 bids on a good year. Mason's run was the only reason the CAA got a couple extra bids the past few years and then VCU solidified themselves as a power before leaving for the A10.

The A10 has a far better reputation than the CAA. I am also excited for the GW-GMU games, a quick metro ride makes this a potential exciting rivalry.

As for Hewitt give him another couple years, he is bringing in recruits... Not a Larranaga x's and o's or motivation wise, but talent is valuable. Also to the poster above who said he had 13 no name NBA players, Chris Bosh and Jarret Jack are both upper level NBA players.

So does Mason have a better chance making the NCAA in the 2013-2014 season or the 2014-2015 season?

Mason has already gotten commits from two small forward three star recruits, and a three star center. A10 teams like Saint Louis, VCU, and UMass will be a huge challenge for Mason to undertake. GW is rebuilding, so Mason will win the battle of the orange line. NIT in 2014, and NCAA 2015. This is a deep team. If NIT or NCAA does not happen, then it will be time to kick Hewitt out.

Only success Paul Hewitt had at Ga Tech was with a team I built.

Bosh? One and done. But that's Hewitt's game - groom individual guys for the pros rather than build a program that wins championships.
