Question about snow plowing

I'm in Centreville. I noticed that there are many snowplows plying the streets but none of them are official government vehicles. Instead, they are from private businesses. I know this as I can see the business names pained on the doors, etc.

Does the county contract with them to plow? Seems like a great idea - no capital equipment and you get the lowest bidders to do the work, eh?

You are assuming that the county is paying them - it could be the neighborhood. Part of my condo fee covers snow removal. Too bad they managed to rip my license plate off the front of my car with a snow blower. Guess I am going to the DMV tomorrow.

The County does not plow roads, the State (VDOT) does. And yes, almost all the plow trucks are owned by private contractors. I don't think it is done by bid. The State pays $X.XX an hour to plow, take it or leave it, is I think how it works.

I wonder how much they get paid. Those Ford F350 and 450s burn up a lot of fuel pushing that blade through snow.

Can anyone tell me if the parkway from South Run to Ox is clear? and then from the Ox exit to downtown Fairfax? (I got ASAP tommorow)

I feel for ya,not much though.That's the nice thing about living in florida. I can plug in to the VDOT cameras and watch the show.

Yes and we watch CNN and listen to all the reports In Florida of the hords of pediphiles abducting children and the whack jobs killing their entire famililies and are glad we only have weather problems...

Not to mention Americas Most Wanted. The majority of time when they have a lookout the degenerate was last seen or on his way to Florida.

I guess if you are going to be on the run better to be a warm fugitive sleeping under a bridge than a cold one.
