nobody cares about absentee votes. They don't even get counted unless the election is close, and the law of large numbers shows that they won't even matter in those situations.

that being said, even if your vote won't matter for the national election, it can be quite important for local races, so still vote.

I guess at this point it's pretty uselss for me to vote either way.(in-person or by absentee ballot)

the result of the presidential election is already pretty much decided in Virginia. All of Virginia's electora votes will go to him.

And remember, like the email said: Republicans and independants vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on wednesday. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the long lines at the polling places.

Radiophile, you are proof that the Republicans are worried about losing. All in their right mind ( Democrats ) know that everybody votes on Tuesday. You are so stupid.

I took the liberty and fixed your sentences so everyone could understand your brilliant position on this matter. Please read the above and let me know if I got it right.

LOL! More likely trying to tell you you don't need a secret ballot to keep people from knowing for whom you will cast your ballot. You guys are too funny.

Absentee votes are counted on election day. Polls now show Obama with huge lead in Va.

Strates: you're an irresponsible and ignorant idiot to give out wrongful information. Absentee Votes are counted, just as any other vote on Nov. 4th. I know this for fact as I worked for an Office of Voter Registration. The idea they are not counted is a myth. It is frightening when someone can post something as you did and can spread such misinformation that would cause people to not vote.

Karin: If you want truthful answers, go to the Voter Registration website for Fairfax County. www.fairfaxcounty.gov/eb. No, no one can see your vote. It is not "tagged" to your name or identity, and if you mail in your absentee ballot, it goes into a locked box, which is later accounted for by the state's electoral board. There are a surprising number of accountability steps that ensure votes are legitimate and counted, much to the dismay of pessimistic people who think votes don't count.

Everything you need to know about voting is there at the website, and if it doesn't answer your question, call their office: 703-222-0776. That is assuming you are registered to vote in Fairfax County. If registered elsewhere, contact your voter registration office.

I believe when people say "the absentee votes only count in a close election", they are being somewhat misled.

What is more accurate is that they don't count in exit polling, so when elections are "called" on tv, the absentee votes aren't really factored into that. The facts about how they are counted:

"How is my mailed ballot counted?

Mailed absentee ballots are counted on Election Day in the Central Absentee Precinct (CAP). Fairfax County uses optical scan equipment to count paper ballots. Please follow the marking instructions on your ballot and return it in the envelopes provided. Be sure to fill in ALL the information on Envelope B, including; your full name, legal address, your signature, your witness's signature and a date. Anyone, including your spouse, family member or neighbor, may serve as your witness."

When the final vote count is issued some amount of days after election day, you can bet your ass those ballots are on there.

Yes, we will all know who you vote for, so better vote for the non-communist.

(For the die-hard leftists/uneducated Dems out there who would deny it, google Frank Marshall Davis, Obama's admitted mentor and guide.)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, keep on telling scary stories just like you did in 1992 and 1996.
