WASHINGTON - A 25-year-old Herndon, Va., man has been charged with texting while driving and other offenses after the vehicle he was driving struck a police officer conducting a traffic stop.
Citing witnesses, Manassas City Police say the female officer was talking to the driver of a vehicle on Route 28 near Phoenix Drive Saturday morning when a black Ford driven by Alexander Bacon swerved off the road and struck both the officer and the vehicle she had stopped.
The officer had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police say Bacon, of Herndon, stopped after the incident. He faces charges that include texting while driving, reckless driving and driving on a suspended operator's license.
Bacon was held on a $5,000 bond. A court date has been scheduled for September.
