Prince William County police officer hits, kills woman
Monday - 7/15/2013, Sarah Beth Hensley, wtop.com

WASHINGTON - A 25-year-old woman died Monday after a Prince William County police cruiser struck her while she was walking in a street under the influence of alcohol.

Prince William County police received a report of an apparently intoxicated woman walking in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. An officer driving a marked cruiser was responding to the scene when he struck 25-year-old Isabella Majano, who police say was in the officer's lane on northbound Jefferson Davis Highway near Crest Drive.

The officer — whose name had not been released — came upon Majano as he crested a hill less than a mile from where a caller reported seeing her, police say. The officer attempted to avoid hitting Majano, but a truck in the lane next to him limited his ability to avoid the collision, police say.

Emergency crews transported Majano, a Woodbridge resident, to an area hospital where she died Monday. An investigation determined she was under the influence of alcohol and was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Prince William County officials had not released information about Majano's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash.

No one else sustained injuries in the crash, police say. Speed was not a factor in the crash, according to authorities.

Wow pretty bad.

The woman is of course a major fail and potential darwin candidate but who knows.. what if she was also having a stroke or something. Could have been a medical condition at play.

My guess is the officer could have hit the truck to avoid the woman and everyone would be alive still without major injuries. But what do I know?

Shouldn't be drinking and walking in the street.

Everyone makes mistakes. Ask your mother.
You'll die too. Hope it's something heroic.

If it was a small child they would still be dead.

How can speed not be a factor? Isn't there a law that you have to be able to stop within your sight distance?

Note that there is no mention of the distance from the top of the hill to the collision, the speed of the police car, or the cop's name.

Anywhere near where the cop killed a teacher a few years ago, or the guy who took the bushes?

Cops should slow down on Route 1.

Oh, and call Eric Holder. Her civil rights might have been violated.

The report was that a woman was walking in the road-drunk.

Could it have been more clear?

How the hell fast was he going?

inexcusable.

If a wise Latina was hurt we will be on the scene in no time. Were there any Skittles at the scene? Please, this is urgent.

Also, was the reckless cop a white Hispanic or a traditional white-white? Did he exit the vehicle after hitting her? If he did that is stalking and profiling.

To the chopper!
