Fool, all car makers have a military and government sales dept. They buy them while stationed over there, drive them while they're there, and then bring them home when they return to the States. The more favorable the exchange rate, the more that do it. And they are US spec vehicles (wheel on the left), they could not bring them back if they were not.

But yeah, leaving the Euro plate on it is the height of douchebaggery.

It seems Mini does not currently have European Delivery but says they might in the future. Just in case you happen to see such a think on German cars, there's a good chance the person was in the military and lived there or they paid for European Delivery and took delivery of their car in Germany .. drove it for a bit.. and returned it back for shipping. This is a fairly common occurrence now. Depending on your bargaining skills, you can pretty much get the car down to a lower price, and your vacation (if you don't spend too much) is covered by the cost savings.

Yeah it's pretty stupid. I see it on other European cars too.

My Dad took German delivery of his S-Class 13 years ago and still drives the car here in the U.S. with the German tags on it. As long as the Virginia tag, including the expiration stickers are visible, there's no problem. As long as you don't mind looking like a tool...

Upon his death, I expect to find a Luger pistol and a closet full of brown shirts when I clean out my Dad's house but...there you go...

To me this is legit though.. which is why i mentioned euro delivery above. At least they were legit tags that were on that car in Europe. Why anyone would care or dislike it is beyond me .. but who cares?

What I don't like about it...and I've said as much to my Father is, "Isn't it enough that they flew you over first-class, shuttled you from the airport put you up in a great hotel, let you tour the factory and pick up your car there?
