I know this is far away from Centreville/Fairfax, but Manassas Martial Arts down near the Manassas Mall is FANTASTIC. They don't "push" kids through just for the testing fees - they make you learn it, but in a fun way. It's privately owned and the main two instructors - Master Paul and Master Carl are great with the kids.

There's one girl in my daughter's class that probably has ADD - she also has coordination issues also, but she's getting noticeably better each class.

Rates are really reasonable - no long term contract, 2 week trial period ($50)...

The only issue is that for white belts (beginners), the classes are 5:30-6:15 Mondays and Wednesdays and 12:45-1:30 on Saturdays. Which sucks in rush hour traffic. Come to as many or as little as you like.

If you have money to spare, there are good ones out there...Hapmudo in Annandale or Yoo's Taekwondo in Alexandria...really the structure and discipline of any decent martial arts class will help an ADD child, as long as the kid is the one who asked to join...enrolling a kid in martial arts would be a costly mistake unless the kid really wants to...most schools have a minimum 1 year contract, which will cost youabout $1200. Aside from monthly fees, there are testing fees and other hidden costs, but if your kid wants to do it, it would be worth the costs.

Find a good Psychiatrist and get some medication for her. All this organic stuff is useful but as a suffer myself through childhood I would explore low-dose treatments. Mostly it could be the difference between Med school and the 'Stop/Slow' sign holder on road construction. Not that there is anything wrong with that especially if you're an 'organic-I-never-took-pharms 'Stop/Slow' sign holder on road construction.

Aren't all martial arts schools for ADD kids?

Also, word of advice: DO NOT send your child to any establishment in Manassas. That's criminally negligent.

Forget martial arts, psychiatrists and meds. They are all ineffective with ADHD.

Try the Feingold Diet http://www.feingold.org. Your kid's food is full of petroleum-based preservatives and dyes. These are neuro-inhibitors that cause some kids to have ADHD-type symptoms. If you look at the cases of ADHD over the past three decades, the number of cases rise starting in the mid 1970s when the food industry started going wild with these additives.

Remove artificial food dyes and preservatives from your kid's diet. Follow the diet strictly for at least a month. You will be amazed at the results.
