Driver Killed in Fairfax Parkway Crash
posted 12/27/08 4:06 pm

Fairfax County (web | news) Parkway, Va. - Fairfax County police are conducting an ongoing accident investigation in a crash which killed one motorist.

Around 1:30 p.m., a 2007 Scion was driving southbound on Fairfax County Parkway, approaching the Burke Center Parkway, when it crossed over the median, flipped and struck an oncoming 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

The Scion drivier, a 23-year-old Centreville man, was ejected from his vehicle. He was flown by Medevac helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has been withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The two people in the pickup truck were not hurt.

Darwin, that was a stupid uninformed statement. I knew the driver who died and he was the nice young man. He worked full time and went to school full time, and he was an all around nice guy. I nor you dont know what happened in the crash, we can only wait til the investigation is finsihed.

Obviously what happened was this 23 year old male was driving along in his Scion obeying all traffic rules when his car suddenly took off across the median and struck another car.

Obviously there was one law he was not obeying....MAINTAIN YOUR LANE.

That's a fairly sharp curve there....he was probably stoned and/or going like a bat out of hell and lost it.

And seat belts are for sissies, right?

Okay, here is how this normally goes:
  • Information about a fatal car accident is posted
  • Regular forum members speculate about how the driver screwed up
  • Friends and family of the dead driver read the thread and become offended
  • Battle ensues
  • Results of the investigation are posted
  • Someone says "I told you so"

So, can we just pretend we already went through all of the steps?

But seriously, has anyone ever noticed that every time some 20-something gets killed in Fairfax County, all sorts of people who can't spell or use punctuation come on here and defend the punk for being the nicest, most caring and generous person to ever walk the earth? It's never their fault. Their actions didn't cause their death, it must have just been that life is unfair and everyone is heartless and cruel.

Why is that?

every time i read/hear someone was ejected from a vehicle, i always think of the james bond ejecting seat.

btw, if someone was ejected from their car, they were not wearing a seatbelt.

Thank you.

Why do idiots think they are invincible, and why do their friends try to defend them after they kill themselves?

I've been in 2 major accidents and the worst injury I've ever had was a chipped tooth. I was hit head on by a 68 year old tourist from Colorado on Walker Rd, and I spun my car out on the beltway in heavy rain and hit the jersey barrier at 65 mph, head on.

I don't even feel comfortable in a car, as a driver or a passenger, without my seatbelt.

With a seatbelt on, and especially with airbags, you really have to be hauling ass or driving a volvo or a honda in order to be injured in an accident, let alone killed.

Ummm, go back and re-read the thread, dipshit. I only posted the article. I didn't make any comments about "driving fast" or "what really happened". I have no idea what caused the accident and I think it is fucked up that someone's brother or son died over the holidays like that.

The county Parkway has more fatal accidents than any road in Fairfax County but nobody seems to care. people go too fast and there are too mnay intersections with lights so rear end accidents happen several times a day. Poorly designed and somone has to take responsibility for this disater of a road before more die.

I have been a volunteer firefighter in FXCO nearly 17 years and I remember discussions during the initial construction stages of the Parkway in the early 90s that we would see a significant number of accidents due to the number of at-grade intersections, both controlled and uncontrolled. IMO, the section between Popes Head and Huntsman is among the worst. The only reason that we do not see more accidents from Route 29 to Franklin Farms is that there is more traffic and slower speeds.

I don't know if it is technically part of the Parkway, but the intersection near the Costco Plaza has an accident a week at minimum due to the most bizzare design of lights and turning and thru lanes.

+1. I often make the right from Popes Head onto the parkway and I usually just wait for a light. One would think with such an open area that the intersection would be a no-brainer but it is hard to judge oncoming traffic speed and distance of northbound parkway traffic from the angles available.

Good to hear that I am not the only one who feels this way at that intersection. I don't know why, but I think that part of the problem with judging speed and distance comes from the long uphill grade of NB traffic. It is also hard to tell whether a car is in the near or far lane until they are very close.

I see a lot of people making a U-turn SB to NB and misjudge the speed of oncoming traffic which results in vehicles needing to swerve or aggressively brake in order to avoid an accident.

Police have identified the woman killed Friday when her SUV collided with a tractor-trailer truck on Fairfax County (web|news) Parkway near Rolling Road.

Police say Jessica Doubleday, 24, of Fairfax died at the scene Friday afternoon. Officials say Doubleday was traveling northbound on Route 7100 (Fairfax County Parkway), when she crossed over the median for unknown reasons. She drove into southbound traffic, and collided with the truck. A fire started following the crash.

And this woman crossed into the median as well.. so there is something wrong with this parkway....

Everyone is speculating and blame the young driver who was killed and even some of you idiots are saying he is guilty no matter the results of the investigation. What if a driver in front of him slammed on the breaks, causing him to cross the median?

I, as well as others here knew the young man. He was an honorable and gentle human being. He was cool and had this genuine laugh. He also inspired those around him. For those of us who had the privilege of working with him, we can testify to his safe driving skills. We must honor those persons with warm souls who pass. His very last word to me as "peace". This is how he ended his phone conversations. As he transcend to a higher plane, let us honor his memory and allow him to rest in 'peace'.

PEACE!

I don't care what you dear friends of the deceased say....there is NO excuse, with the possible exception of ice, for ending up in opposing lanes of traffic!

Safe driving skills? He was thrown from the car because he was not wearing a seat belt. This isn't some minor inconsistency, this is a pattern. He was only 23 and he had three tickets for going over the speed limit already. The last one was only a few months ago.

Don't blame the Parkway, this was driver error. At least 30,000 other people drive along that Parkway that day and they had no problem.

40,000 people a year die on our highways (average). Half of those that die are not wearing a seatbelt. Next time you are driving, take notice those around you that are wearing a seatbelt. Its about 80% based upon the NTHSA, or 4 out of 5.

There is a correllation there. If you don't recognize it, you could die from ignorance. Wear your seat belt and slow down. Had this guy been wearing his seat belt, he would have doubled his chances of living, 50/50 that he would still be alive. Learn the lesson.

As you stated ice can cause you to cross the median. Also if some hits you this cause u to cross the median. So there are exceptions. We dont know what happened. Americans are to quick to blame people. There is this blame game in the USA that does not exist anywhere else in the world. That is why the prison population is so ridiculous high here. I guess had he survived and others were lost in the pick up, we would be discussing the possible charges.

Have you thought that had he been wearing a seat beat he would have been smashed to death? At any rate we dont know if he was wearing a seat belt or not. Why can't you just wait for the investigation results?

Since when did tickets become criminal? Every single American has driven over the speed limit at some point. We all know that non-european are profiled, so stopped all this nonsense. If all can be said is that he had 3 speeding tickets, then I have no reason to judge him a bad drive. What is the difference between driving over the limit and given a ticket and driving over the limit without given a ticket? They are the same act which could cause the same results.

Since when did tickets become criminal?
They are considered misdemeanors, but they are criminal. A high number for so few years on the road. Averages beig what they are, he was a habitual speeder.

Every single American has driven over the speed limit at some point.
By that logic, everyone is a criminal so nobody is a criminal? Speed does not kill, but its a decent foreshadower to wreckless bahavior.

We all know that non-european are profiled, so stopped all this nonsense.
Talk about a blame game.

If all can be said is that he had 3 speeding tickets, then I have no reason to judge him a bad drive.
Now three tickets and a toe tag. (Actually, it was four tickets, but three were for speeding.)

What is the difference between driving over the limit and given a ticket and driving over the limit without given a ticket? They are the same act which could cause the same results.
Doing it in front of a cop is the difference. This is probably why you are being "profiled".

I would also bet dollars to donuts that he was not wearing a seat belt.

Wow do people actually have un-genuine laughs? Would this be something like a laugh transplant?

Glad you have identified the cause. We all have been wondering. Did you see him take off? Like, did he miss his flight out of Dulles and was he trying to meet it half way? That is kind of dangerous.

Guardrails would reduce the number of cross-median flight patterns of these airbourne cars.

4 tickets in two years, he must of really been working on being a bad driver.

He got two tickets in the same month. Face facts! He was an out of control driver.

He didn't care about traffic laws.

A ticket means you got caught breaking the law, committing a criminal act.

You are right that everyone speeds and some small percentage get tickets for it because it is so common. Now take this guy. How much speeding would he have to do to actually rack up that many tickets? I'd put money down that there are even more tickets from where he went to college outside of Fairfax County. This guy routinely went 20+ over and didn't wear a seatbelt.

He may have been a nice guy, he just wasn't a smart guy and unfortunately paid a high price for repeated dangerous driving habits. I'm just glad the other people involved weren't killed because of his actions. He obviously didn't care about the safety of others on the road. You know when some jerky is driving like crazy, swerving in and out of lanes and passing people? This was one of those people. And this is what sometimes happens to people that drive like maniacs.

I don't blame the parkway, I was just agreeing with another poster that visibility is a problem in some areas. But it is certainly the driver's fault and his fault alone... I'm not making the "it's the signage that killed them!" argument as was made in the case of the drunk and stoned graduates that died on the mixing bowl.

I came upon this accident Saturday afternoon shortly after it happened. There must have been 3 firetrucks there. The accident occurred just after the intersection where the light is. We had to turn back around or head right on Burke Lake Parkway.

It was a sunny day about 60 degrees so I doubt weather was a factor. Maybe someone cut in from of him turning right onto the parkway but he must have been in the left lane in order to cross the other side of the parkway. That is a fairly wide grassy median so I am guessing he was going pretty fast.

I feel bad for his death but his driving record does appear to say he liked to speed. After that September 2006 ticket, being just 21, I bet his insurance company dropped him and he was forced to "behave" on the road. The rest of us should not be subjected to these reckless drivers who have little regard for others' safety. It is a blessing that he did not kill a few others with his bad habits.

The sad thing is that NOTHING will be learned from this. We've already heard this moron's friends blaming everybody and everything EXCEPT the deceased.

Will they slow down and buckle up? No fucking way...they are IMMORTAL at that age!

Did anyone notice that on the arrest list if you pull up the street name, you get another person with same last name who had a ticket for failure to wear a seat belt? Looks like a sister (or perhaps brother, I'm not up on foreign names).

There is a reason we have seat belt laws. They help save lives.

Oh, and Trickie, I haven't had a ticket either in 25 years (got one on I-81 in 1984 for going 64 in a 55, which today would not be against the law).

For whoever was old enough to speed on Rt 81 in the 80's. Frankie Goes to Hollywood was probably on the tape deck, when Wow got pulled over.

They are the same act which could cause the same results.

you dont get ejected from a modern car if you are properly wearing a seat belt, period.

For those who make fun of his death:

This guy was my best friend, and I hung out with him everyday for the past 6 years. It is true that he was not the best driver, but this accident was not caused by his driving. My theory is his new tires. He has been complaining about the back tires losing grip on the road when making turns or changing lanes. But I will wait for the full investigation.

Now, I been reading alot of nasty things on this forum about him. I cannot just sit here and read this about my best friend and do nothing. So for those of you brave enough to say this in front of me. Please contact me at 703 861 9714. We can arrange a meeting, so we can talk and see what I can do to convince you about the comments you have made is wrong. If that does not work, pray to whoever it is you pray to. Because on that day, at the moment, when we see each other face to face, it will be your last day on this earth. I pray that you take me seriously.

I'm sorry about your friend, but going at the speeds he was accustomed to (according to the arrest record at least) tires don't keep grip... they aren't magic and I'm sorry your friend just didn't get it after all the arrests and warnings.

Seriously, how fast on even the most worn out tires do you have to be going to notice that your car slid? This was a dangerous driver. On an afternoon on a day where there wasn't ice on the roads you'd better believe it was the driver's fault.

LOL.. The same kind who posts his private number on a sex site advertising his "9.5 inch dick that won't stay down."

I'll bet he's a real charmer. Real suave and sophisticated with the ladies.
