Run the Republicans Out of Fairfax County...
Posted by: Vince(1) ()
Date: January 09, 2009 10:10PM

Tired of family political dynasties?

Tired of the same old promises of reducing congestion without taxes....and years of supporting real estate developers?

Tired of the lies about supporting public school teachers while encourgaing home schooling?

When Pat Herrity ran for Springfield Supervisor he promised to get funding for the renovation of West Springfield High School. Now he and his partner in crime Dave Albo whipe their hands like Pontius Pilate and say look to the School Board!

What is Pat Herrity's stand on a women's right to control her reproductive health? Does he support State Senator Ken Cuccinelli - 37th District Virginia (Springfield) opinion that a pharmacist has the right to turn away a women with a prescription for birth control? Does Mr Herrity belive as his Bishop does that you cant be Catholic and pro-choice?

Tired of the lies about the county's fiscal problems? Everyone knows that the problem has been brought on by a republican caused recession! How can we expect the same party to bring us out of a budget crisis?

Go Pat Herrity!

This is crazy, even for Vince. Is he talking about the same county that has been run by developer-blowing Jerry Connelley, Demokrat?

I understand that Id rather live in the Fairfax County run by Connoly then in Republikan controlled Prince William County. I guess add that to your list of issues...if you want Fairfax County touted as the latest anti-immigrant county in the country...filled with all the lies and hate that issue has to offer...vote for Herrity.

Yes, civil liberties are SO MUCH better under guys like Connelley, who ordered cops into bars in Reston in a failed attempt to arrest people for drunk in public. What a model of public leadership. More of same, how great. Lies and hate? What a bunch of stupid tripe and baloney.

Yeah, we need MUCH higher taxes to pay for those big classes in FCPS and all those programs no one wants. Yeah, let's all make sure we vote for Bulova, she'll raise our taxes, just like we all want.

Last time I looked, the school board is almost all democrats who have mismanaged the FCPS system into one big black hole.

What about Connelley and the rest of the democrats on the BOS? Are we not short 700 million? Are the roads in need of repair? Do we have too much traffic? Connelley has been in the pockets of all developers for years. That is called BRIBES.

please tell me how the act of Pontius Pilate resemble those of Pat Herrity and/or Dave Albo in the slightest. you obviously dont know why Pilate said that.

Vince is an ardent illegal alien advocate. Any justification to cut programs that reduces their "entitlements" is suspect as far as he is concerned.

He is so out of touch that he doesn't even realize Fairfax County has been controlled by a predominantly DEMOCRAT Board that doubled our real estate taxes during the past 6 years, and petitioned the General Assembly to allow additional County self taxes, while:

Handing out building permits like penny candy with no developer accountability for the potential costs that would otherwise be passed on to tax payers in the form of many tax funded infrastructure improvements.

Reducing the Commercial tax base by 10%, placing an ever greater tax burden on homeowners.

Transferring funding for transportation to tax payers rather than establishing small tax districts (which businesses have encouraged and approved in the past)

And (Vince's little pork barrel spending favorite) additional and questionable benefits and services for illegal aliens with no qualification requirements, offering the same services in both the School Budget AND the County Budget. In particular - the decision to draw from Federal SCHIP allocations (intended to provide health care for children) to provide prenatal care and hospitalization for pregnant illegal aliens.

These are all some of the things Herrity voted against during Board meetings - and was out voted by the DEMOCRAT Board members ... and most of the things Vince holds dear. Should we really be surprised that he is lashing out? His dreams of continued tax and spend may be in jeopardy.

And Junes buys into the republican lie that more can be had without taxes...that deficits dont matter..that roads can be built/maintained...that schools can be built...infrastructure maiantained all without taxing. She would rather blame the defenseless amongst us for all her wohhs and problems. She buys into the big republikan lies that she is being held back by others...that her progress in life is dependent on others not doing as well. If that the Fairfax County you want to live in...go ahead vote for the Herrity family dynasty.

I still can't believe Vince is posting that, even for him. Fairfax County has been under majority Demokrat control for what, twenty years? EVERY PROBLEM YOU MAY HAVE with Fairfax County was either caused or solvable under the watch of the Demokrats on the County Board of Supervisors.

I have no major problems with Fairfax County

Our current budget crisis is not of their making.

They have maintained the dignity of the County by keeping us out of the Fedearal issue of undocumented workers.

They have a balanced growth policy.

All I know about Herrity is that he promised to get the money to have WSHS renovated...he failed..and now he and Albo wash their hands of the issue. He failed on the one local issue I care about. He doesnt deserve the vote from a single voter in West Springfield. He's entire career is based on his Dad's reputation and I cant even imagine the power base he is becoming to...of the old and more entrenched and wealthy citizens of fairfax

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, Vince. Have you ever heard of checks and balances? If you eliminate one of the two major parties, you will have none. Regardless of which party you support (Republikan or Demokrat), a reasonably intelligent person would want a little competition in place to keep things from spiraling out of control (ie. Chicago).

Let me get this straight -- everyone who does not agree with you politically is a "liar" and an "idiot?" You're a pretty bright guy.

Now John, no need to be snide. Vince is a businessman - reading between the lines, its understandable that he would be anxious if someone with leadership capabilities and financial sanity took the reins.

Our current budget crisis is not of their making.
Vince means - "as long as no one looks too closely, my contracts are safe"

Vince means - "if I had to pay my workers going rates with benefits, I would go under -- I NEED the cheap labor and thank the tax payers for picking up their benefits."

Where did you see me call anyone an idiot? As far as a liar...I do think Herrity, Albo and Cuccinelli are all liars or worse....populist politicians who flame the fires of hate and misunderstanding.

Uh, the Fairfax County School Board is the only elected body that can allocate funding for an individual school. Dave Albo can't, and Pat Herrity can't.

Who the heck cares? Those issues are controlled at the state level. The Fairfax BOS has nothing to do with any of those decisions.

The County's fiscal problems are the result of severe over-spending. There is a $400 million budget deficit because the BOS could not say no to any special interest group. By the way, cutting $400 million out of the budget is not a lot if you consider the Fairfax budget was more than $400 million leaner two years ago.

You sound like the Democrats' answer to the radical religious nutjobs.

Trivial. Yup, just like the fact that the new Treasury Secretary perpetrated tax fraud. fraud not evasion

No penalties assessed. Penalty usually equals 25% of tax due. Lets vote.

Vince, get real. Both parties are really close to developers. That's how they get elected. And it is a staple of local politics all over the country. No surprise that Obama got his start with the assistance of Tony Rezko - he is no different than any other young aspiring politician. This is not a knock on Obama - even in machine dominated Chicago, one needs developers to run for office.

Upon reflection, it seems clear to almost any reasonable people that the last 10/15 years in the Northern Virginia area is a perfect example of how local politicians connive with developers to make their system of manipulation work.

Development is not just a competitive business; given the vagaries of land use and zoning law, it requires lots of care and feeding of local politicians. The local pols of course like the money and other resources thrown their way, so they play with the developers.

Developers and builders love cheap labor, and even more, they love white (and to some extent Asian) flight, because heck, that is what creates that juicy demand for the chock-a-block houses out in Loudoun, thirty mile commutes be damned. And in concert with the local pols, they exploit the use of cheap labor and encourage white flight by permitting or encouraging illegal immigration. Who cares if it depresses working class wages of citizens significantly (especially here, where unions are not as strong as in the north)? Neither the Dems or the Republicans give a hoot about the working class, because if they did, they wouldn't permit hordes of undocumented workers to depress their wages and freeze them out of the beginning rungs of the labor market. There's voters to be had, and cheap labor for businesses to exploit. And of course the moral hazards of letting so many ignore or violate the law are never discussed - the greatest cost to illegal immigration in a society and economy dependent on the rule of law - why heck one might just be called a racist!

With the influx of illegal immigration, the schools degrade, crime increases, the quaintness suburbanites like disappears, and voila, people leave (except if they live in the Langley district or a few other pockets where the pols know they have to protect people with real money and power), ready to zoom into the that fresh clean scrubbed, thin dry wall manse in Ashburn. Energy and environmental quality be damned - intelligent urban density and communities be damned - 30 mile commutes are easily forgotten unless oil hits 140 bucks a barrel. Dems like the illegal immigration - it is part of a long strategic process where they in essence can buy off and obtain lots of captive voters and assuage white guilt and well, lots of unprincipled Republicans love it too because it is good for business with cheap wages and easy firings. Bankers love it too because their borrowers can cut all sorts of corners on wages and worker safety and avoid costs. Helps the borrowers paying the typical staggering debt and expense loads it takes to make a business run here. Dem also pols love it because it gives them a nice sandbox in which to play social engineer, under the naive view with more extortionate tax and spend programs we will all be equal under the sun - there always needs to be more unfortunate fodder for that "next' Great Society program that if funded at least at three times the level reality would dictate just might finally turn the corner for the oppressed.

I wait for the day there is a sociologist with enough guts to document all this in an empirical way. Unfortunately, it would have to be a tenured one with no further career aspirations, because the apparatchiks that pass for educators (indoctrinators, really) at universities these days would never have enough courage to have such candor. For now, anyone willing to see it for themselves should start a drive at Rte 7 at Seven Corners and head all the way out to the western edge of Loudoun, although you may want to detour on the Greenway that few people use that was built to grease the skids of all the white flight. Or skip the drive and get a good window seat on that next clear day when you fly into Dulles from the northwest. It is all there for the looking.

And so Vince, there is little contrast between Dems and Republicans. In others words, although I find much to disagree with him about - Ralph Nader is right on this score. They both have been in league with the real estate community and its appurtenant factions for quite some time now.

If you ROFLMAO for something like that, then

(1) you are +1 to your own post; or

(2) you are VERY easily amused.

This is one of your most idiotic statements to date. Under Gerry Connoly, Fairfax County is facing a $650 million shortfall which is larger than the total budget of the Police, Fire and Rescue, Sheriff, Libraries, Parks and Health Departments combined, while homeowner taxes have doubled in the last seven years.

In the meantime, Gerry the Conman has instituted:

-- Over $200M in the last 2 years to buy government housing and become the largest landlord in the County;
-- Subsidizing government housing for those making in excess of $99,000; and
-- Proposed spending $130 million to purchase a school administration building while our teachers have dropped from the highest paid in the region to sixth highest.

I voted for change in November, and I will vote for change in February.

While I agree with you in principle, don't forget that the reason real estate taxes have doubled in the last 7 years is because the values of homes have increased by about that much. Technically, Fairfax has lowered its real estate taxes in the last 7 years, but assessed values have caused the overall tax bills to increase.

in 2001, the tax rate was $1.23 per $100 assessed value. In 2003, it was lowered to $1.21. In 2004 it was lowered to $1.16, and in 2005 it was lowered to $1.13. In 2007 it was lowered again to $0.89. They raised it to $0.92 for 2009.

I don't like property taxes to begin with, but 0.92% is at least "reasonable". As much as I hate paying taxes, $6,500 a year isn't going to put me in the poor house. Considering my tax bill when I purchased my house for $417,000 was around $5,200 and my house is now worth around $700,000 6 years later, and my tax bill has only gone up $1,300, I'm happier about the (not yet realized) "profit" on my house than worried about the extra expense of the taxes.

Considering that the starting salary for Teachers is $44,789, and the maximum is $92,094 (which is $9,260 lower than the highest paying county, Montgomery County) it's still pretty good pay, in relative terms. $45k for someone just out of college is not a bad salary. There are folks getting out of college happy to be making anything over $30k (and sure, there are the people getting out of college who are being offered $75k, even $150k, but they are the exceptions, not the rule.)

Of course it was stupid to spend $130 million on an administration building with a $157.5 million budget shortfall. Although, in reality, since it was bond-funded, and even though it will end up costing more like $273 million, most of those costs are spread out over many years. But it was still stupid and sort of a slap in the face for Fairfax County residents/taxpayers. They could have used the bonds to give teachers a 5% pay increase, or maybe get rid of some of those trailers and build permanent classrooms.

I'm not so sure that voting out the current scoundrels will mean anything other than voting in a new bunch of scoundrels.

All of this is true. Lenin was right too when he said that capitalists, given enough rope, would destroy their countries. The US is a perfect example of that. The rich and powerful, for short-term financial gain, sow the seeds of the country's destruction with these policies.

So you would prefer a socialist government? You, sir, are free to leave the country.

And this piece of well thought out brilliance is in response to what post exactly?
