Looking Wrote: >> Where in FX is a good place to get sushi. Grocery stores?
My absolute favorite in the area is Tono Sushi on Connecticut Ave in DC. But as far as FFX county- Konami in Tysons Corner is my go-to place. It's excellent.
Grocery store sushi sorta sucks, but I'll admit to buying it occasionally at Whole Foods.
Grocery store sushi is soo terrible. Obi Sushi in reston town center is good.. but i usually look for a nice hole in the wall japanese place, its usually better there. well my experience's at least. Mikaku In Mclearn Square near Rachel Carson Middle School is also good. Obi has a good lunch buffet with the sushi selection being decent, but TODAI in fairoaks mall is awesome, they have a good selection of sushi and sashimi
I tried out Todai the other day for dinner and liked it. Sushi, sashimi, crab legs and even some lobster. A bunch of other hot and cold stuff, and even crepes to order for dessert! The chef made me an uni sushin on request -- if you see something on a window label or otherwise think it might be back there but don't see it, make sure to ask for it. My waitress was attentive with the drinks and took care of me -- making sure I knew the lobster was coming out.
It's like Minado, only better.
Certainly not the same as a real sushi bar, but for an American style of eating (AYCE buffet) it's excellent.
Matsuri in Herndon has a pretty good lunch buffet @ $11.99, but they go heavy on the sticky rice sometimes on their nigiri pieces. Other than that, I'd recommend Sakura's sushi bar at Fair Lakes since the fish portions are often 4x larger than the rice.
some people around the area will argue that sushi yama in vienna has the best. but honestly, they are quite overrated. ive yet to find a sushi place in fairfax county that can beat sakura japanese steakhouse in fair lakes. they have a great sushi area and bar...and they're bartenders make a great sakitini.
OCD, i feel what you mean...I started my sushi loving after a great time at Sakura, I give them credit where its due....lovely setting as well. But after i tried a few others i was somewhat dissapointed. Sakura i give a 7 out of 10.....But after i found Miyagis in mclean to be a 9. i have yet to go back. I will go for the steakhouse section though...always a good time. ME LOVE SAKI
Matsu in Centreville is our favorite. Service is always great, sushi is top notch and if you sit at the bar, there is usually a little chef's special brought to you.
