Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide in a Fairfax County apartment Monday morning, authorities said.

Police were called to a building at the Skyline Towers apartment complex in the 5500 block of Seminary Road in Bailey's Crossroads shortly before 10 a.m.

In a 23rd floor apartment, they found the bodies of a man and a woman. A weapon was also found inside the apartment.

Authorities said there is no risk to the community and they are not looking for a suspect, reported News4's Mark Segraves. Crime scene technicians and homicide detectives were on the scene.

Police have not yet commented on the relationship of the deceased. There are no records of previous 911 calls to that apartment, Segraves reported.

A witness told Segraves that he heard a woman screaming and as many as five shots fired. Police would only say that multiple shots were fired.

Several residents of the building called 911.

Authorities said the apparent murder-suicide not related to a Friday incident at the apartment complex, when police were called to respond to a person making threats against someone else in the complex.

I looked at a condo there years ago and just could not get past remembering the place collapsing while being built. Of course it was so long ago most people that live there probably don't even know the history of the place. It's cursed to be sure.

Seems like someone is always dying there. Did you notice this comment from the report?

"Authorities said the apparent murder-suicide not related to a Friday incident at the apartment complex, when police were called to respond to a person making threats against someone else in the complex."

Not the kind of place I want to live in to be sure.

Was the condo you looked at in the same exact building that fell? There are a bunch of identical buildings.

If it was the one that collapsed, that is the safest building in Fairfax County. I know some guys that worked on the rebuild and they said inspections were intense. Workers couldn't get away with half-assing ANYTHING.

This was not the same building as the one that fell down while being built. That was Skyline Plaza Condos down the street at Geo. Mason & 7. Skyline Towers is the apartment complex at the other end of Skyline, by the Chili's and Toys-R-Us.

It really buge me the way these MURDERS are reported.

It's like, "oh, it was a "domestic situation"".

As if the person wasn't really killed.

I wonder if the wife would have divorsed the guy if he didn't kill himself.

Why would a mother-in-law divorce her son-in-law. Maybe next time you should read the article.

Police say Bailey’s Crossroads man killed mother-in-law, self
http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/article/20130617/NEWS/130619360/1117/police-say-bailey-x2019-s-crossroads-man-killed-mother-in-law-self&template=fairfaxTimes

This story was updated at 12:30 p.m. June 18.

Fairfax County police say a man shot and killed his mother-in-law before killing himself.

Police said they responded on Monday shortly before 10 a.m. for a report of the sound of gunshots in the Skyline Towers apartment complex, in the 5500 block of Seminary Road in Bailey’s Crosssroads.

Police said upon arrival, officers found Lakshmi Bhat, 62, of North Carolina, and Anand Venkata, 36, of the 5500 block of Seminary Road, in Venkata’s apartment.

“Both died of apparent gunshot wounds,” police spokesman Don Gotthardt said.

Gotthardt said an initial investigation led detectives to believe the case was a domestic incident that culminated in a homicide-suicide. Police later said it appears Venkata shot and killed Bhat, his mother-in-law, and then shot and killed himself.

“We received a number of calls about the incident, one of which we believe came from within the apartment itself,” Gotthardt said.

Police said Tuesday that the investigation continues and that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will later make an official determination as to cause and manner of both deaths.

Gotthardt said there was no connection between this case and an incident in the same apartment complex on Friday, in which police used a Taser stun gun on a combative man, who was charged with drunk and disorderly behavior.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

All of Bailey's Crossroads needs to be Straightened. Their aren't even any sidewalks from the east side to the north, their should be walkways along the whole of the crossroads. It just doesn't make sense. Improvements really need to be made. Who's in charge of this place? And if your going to kill living in Bailey's Crossroads move out. And what about that industrial area where they fix cars and that old used car lot right at the crossroads, a laundry mat, best buy is ok, and some store for discount electronics, come on. Not at the heart of the city, that's ill. But jesus and the baby.
