Amazon.com is much friendlier, use them instead. The site even greets you by your first name once you log in. There is not a single thing that B&N sells that can't wait to show up via USPS/UPS/Fedex in a few days, for cheaper. If they got fired, who or what would show up next to do the job? Shut up until it is you taking their place.

People can have bad days. Gone are the days of the engaged bookstore employee that works there due to their love of literature. Your standards are too high. Maybe your standards will be more reasonable once they install self-checkout systems where the human interaction for the entire shopping experience is reduced to zero. Only shoplifters will get human interaction until armed sentrybots are deployed (which will happen once the cost of sentrybots is lower than the cost of employees.)

"She quite ruined your morning"? First world problems. You ramble too much to be the usual troll, so I'll bite. Did the pleasure of your purchase turn into ashes in your mouth? You felt that you were sufficiently wronged so that any moment outside that store was affected? You need to move the bar up on people that can ruin your day to at least "gynecologist" or "magistrate," not "ATM".

You're seeking unearned respect from wage slaves simply because you believe that you're superior to them. The big book sellers are circling the drain. They see employees as cost centers instead of profit centers, so they reduce compensation as much as possible. Your experience is the best the company can provide at the price they're willing to pay. That's the best employee they can find that will work for that pay. That employee probably gets one fewer hour per week than the minimum qualification for benefits. B&N made it so that they're not thankful for their jobs. Friendly cashiers are too expensive to be employed at B&N.

Common courtesy was cut out of the employee requirements in order to lower costs. Go shop elsewhere - where the books cost more and the employees get enough hours to qualify for healthcare benefits. The B&N employees don't want to be there, don't love their job, and I don't blame them. Getting up in their shit over a fake smile makes it that much harder for them to do their time and leave. Pay the fucking person, take your fucking purchase, and fucking leave. Don't pity them either. It is better if both of you want to complete this transaction as smoothly and quickly as possible.

I have had a handful of shit jobs while in high school and soon after graduating. The shit that the general public heaps on those unfortunately have to serve them is appalling. Go work in that job for that pay for six months before letting it quite ruin your morning.
