Volunteer Arrested; Charged with Embezzlement

Fair Oaks Police District – A 25-year-old woman, working as a volunteer at “Celebrate Fairfax” was arrested and charged with embezzlement. Varrie Butler of 43460 Katling Square in Chantilly was tending a cash box at one of the entrance gates to the event on Sunday, June 9, between noon and 5 p.m. when management became suspicious and contacted police. The investigation determined that Butler had allegedly taken money from citizens purchasing tickets and secreted it on her person. Butler cooperated and all of the money was recovered. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

I think it goes...

"One for him, two for me...One for him, three for me..."

Well that's math in the public school system.

using cash boxes at an event this size is a total joke. There is no control and its human nature to take advantage of organizers so stupid. All they had to do was run a register that printed out a bar code on the receipt for entry. Instead they were selling paper tickets off a roll. The only vendors that do that are trying to avoid an accurate record of cash for, um, tax purposes (cough).

FFX was running the Fair like it was a lemonaid stand.

So now its the organizer's fault? They were the victims, this fat chick was the culprit. She took advantage of the event organizers.

If you don't protect what you have, you may not deserve to have it.

Yes it is Fairfax County's fault. They dont know how to handle cash, period. If it had not been this person someone else would have stolen unaccounted cash, period. Are you so stupid as to believe that if you take thousands of dollars in cash by putting it in a jive $10 tin cash box and handing someone a ticket off a roll you are not going to have theft? That is why they invented registers with printed receipts.

Yes this woman is fat and obviously not too bright but lets get this straight she is just the one that got caught. I am certain, given this 'system' others had their hand in the till as well...

I agree - using cash boxes at these things are stupid. It's 2013, either have tickets purchased in advanced online, e-card readers at the gate, or run an actual cash register that keeps a log of the transactions that you can audit with the drawer.

What does taxes have anything to do with this? The county does not pay taxes.

Holy shit...some of you must have never worked in retail or at amusement parks before.

Its called cash handling 101. It does not matter if you use a cash register or a cash box. Both systems can be abused/stolen from or both can be effective.

This is how it works with tickets/cash box. The "cashier" is provided a pre counted till and a pre counted number of tickets. People come up and hand over cash for the ticket. At the end of the day, count the number of tickets gone from the number issued. Then count the money in the till and subtract the starting amount. The value of sold number of tickets should match the money in the till past the starting amount.

This is shit simple and it not hard. Very easy system and is most likely why the county still uses it.

One poster had a great idea. In this day and age the county should be using online prepayment etc etc. I agree in theory. Problem is not everybody has a computer, or other means that were listed to pay for tickets. The county has to make tickets sales easy for all county residents other wise some shit head would sue because the are being discriminated against because the county made entry into the fair unavailable to the poor. or some bull shit like this.

So asswipe. How can the single mom without a debit card, or credit card take her kids to the fair??? Pay cash she saved all week for the cash at the gate. For her kids. And there are PLENTY of cops there. Not watching the cash.
Not all people steal. EXCEPT...... Get the lazy FCPD to watch the gate like they are paid to do. Not stand around and bullshit and let their kids, wife, friends in free. Just bypass the gate. Here's your wristbands.
That is also stealing. With a full pass.

Again you are wrong. In theory the math works with a simple cash box but when you are given random tickets (or even dollar store tickets with numbers) accountability is never as good as a register drawer with printed time-stamped receipts, period. Dont tell me otherwise because your lies stink of dead fish and this woman's undergarments...

If you can't afford to own a computer to purchase tickets online, I don't want to smell you at the event. You should spend your free time trying to earn more money, not wasting the day at the fair. The solution to keep the "unwashed masses" out is to make everything so expensive they will stay home.

My lies? what did I lie about? You are fucking stupid. Read more slowly what I posted. I said both systems work and both can be cheated. With a cash box, they are not given "random tickets". They are given a set number. Say they start with a 100, they sell for 10 bucks. At the end they have sold 65 tickets. That means they turn back in 35 unused tickets and $6500 in cash plus the starting till amount. Anything over means they cheated somebody change. Anything under means they either gave away free tickets, too much change, or they took money.

With your plan which works to but money can still be stolen. There are several different schemes. Ask any cash manager at any business with cashiers.

So again...what are the lies? Go back to mommy's basement now before you say something else to make you look stupid yet again.

But glad to know you like sniffing peoples underwear. Whatever gets you off.

But that's not very open and welcoming. They have to celebrate the diversity of Fairfax. This means the poor and the old to. And even in this day in time, some people still do not have credit cards. Some can't get them....some do not want them.

Me personally, I think anybody that owns property in the county should get in free. But that would make things even more complex.

Maybe it should just be free to get in.

I went to high school with her. She's got a lying and stealing problem. She did so well in school and in the marching band!! But in 2009 she made the mistake of associating with Michael Phillip Lewis AKA Midknight. He's a Gangster Disciple and is a heavy drug user and is known to be violent!! Back in December 09 Lewis aka Midknight assaulted me and robbed me of my hoodie! When it happened Varrie stood by and DID NOTHING TO HELP ME!!! It makes me happy that this fat bitch is going down!! She's got 4 prior felony convictions in Loudoun county circuit court for credit card theft and forgery. She also is currently on probation in Loudoun County, hopefully her PO will send her to the state prison!!!!

Whoever wrote this shit, needs to take this down, whoever is attempting to set me up, you need to fall back and leave Varrie alone. She's been charged, and NOT CONVICTED!! We are by law INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT!!

Wow! Volunteer Fairfax does no background checks!!!!

Just a matter of time before someone runs the names of their volunteers through the sex abuser database and publishes the matches.

What instrument did she play, the kleptophone?

She was in band, maybe that got her enough school spirit for a deferred adjudication.

I think they ought to fry her and stop wasting tax money on stuff like this.

Technically she did not pocket it, she "secreted it on her person", most likely in a roll of fat, of which she has many such hiding places. ...I'd hate to be the one who had to dig the money out or handle it afterwards.

This fat ogre is now facing felony probation violations out of Loudoun County!!!! Hopefully she will earn a nice spot in the correctional facility for women. She's a sorry excuse for a human being. When she's gotten mad at people, I've seen first hand how her and Michael Philip Lewis aka Midknight would threaten to make up a story about how the person tried to rape her!! She even threatened to do it to me. She said if you don't give me cash, I'll tell cops you tried to rape me and Knight will back me up with the story. She stood by when a guy she called a friend was robbed and beaten up for his red south pole sweater. It makes me fucking happy that this ogre is facing felony charges!!!!

Sharon Bulova and Gerry Connolly have invited the newly announced Trayvon Martin Foundation to come to Fairfax.

The foundation is interested in the offer, particularly if arrangements can be made for Varrie Butler to work there, possibly doing community service for the foundation instead of being incarcerated.

Actually, if they did incarcerate her for a year, she would just be entitled to on tray of food with real portion sizes per meal. I say she'd drop 40 pounds in the poke for a year.

Too soon. It is best to let old threads ferment for at least one year for maximum flavor.
