This is very true. I've been in this area for many years and there were no issues until the "Big" growth period of the late 90's / early 2000's. That's when everyone moved here about the same time and started getting on everyone's nerves.

So here's what I've seen: this place is no more or less racist than anyplace else. I've been in places where people tend not to say shit but the racism is there, and these places tend to be ones with an overwhelmingly large majority of some sort (ie. Iceland - who knew, right?).

One thing I'll say for here - it's better than most places and far better than it was (I hear) back in the day. We're free to mouth off all we want on public forums but attacking somebody in public, even verbally, on the basis of racial animus will not yield the results you want. Humans being what we are, this place is definitely livable.

I have to agree with you here. I took an underground tour of Paris when I was there in 2006. It included the dugout caves along the Seine where the Nazis held the Jews prior to shipping them out on boats. Now, I'm all about the concentration camps being maintained as reminders of our horrible history but, this seemed a bit much to me. Especially considering the history of the Vichy...

If you read the Washington Post this morning, perhaps you read the article where the niggers are now complaining that businesses that use criminal background checks as part of their job applications, are discriminationg because criminal background checks eliminate 80% of the niggers who apply for a job! Back in the 50's if you wanted to be an engineer, you took a test to show you could do basic engineering. No matter your degree or family name or race or sex...this was fair.

Take an applicant, stop asking his/her race. Read the application, administer a test, hire a non biased agency to review the test and appolication. No matter the race or sex of the applicant if they cannot do the position (physical tests included you lady cops and firewomen) then do not get the job. Simple.

Are people going around calling blacks niggers in public? For the most part, no.

Are people calling the Hispanics spics in public? For the most part, no.

Do we have extremist hate groups in this area? For the most part, no.

NOVA is one of the better places in terms of racism, actually.

The original poster is totally right that there's a shocking amount of racism on this message board. But the racism you see here is only a very small fraction of the population of Northern Virginia. This would actually be a great site if the message boards were only moderated.

the two groups you mention are among the most racist in the world. Followed by the Japs, they're very racist. America is pretty accepting by contrast.
