I wanted to alert you to what happened yesterday. A woman was abducted
in the parking lot of the mall, forced into her car, taken to an ATM,
and ended up killed during a car crash as the bad guys were trying to
get away.

This happened in the afternoon on a Saturday! Please be careful when
going here. Better yet, stay away from this Mall. It terifies me!

let me be the first to say i am glad this blog is here to offer tribute we knew this woman and she was very kind. i wish you would not say fail she was a very sweet woman and no one should have this heppen to them

Fight like hell-I bet this woman bet she had.

Wherever thugs are taking us is going to be worse than where you started.

Victims, have a much higher survival rate in some crowded parking lot than on some dirt road or alley.

From what I've read, police found a "fake weapon" at the crash scene. I'm guessing this means her abductors used a realistic-looking toy gun on her. Fight, when you think you've got a Beretta pointed straight at you? I feel she did the best she could (phoning her husband and letting someone at the PDQ Mart know she was in trouble) under those circumstances.

Plus the woman was in her 60's and who knows if she was in any shape to fight the thugs. Normally they'll spot someone who looks totally defenseless... they didn't go after some young woman in a jogging outfit, they went after an older lady.

edit to add: here is a link to an article with some more info. By the look of the one Yute with her, I seriously doubt the poor woman could have fought them off.

Too bad the sheeple in NoVA still frown upon concealed carry. I carry daily, and if this had been me, there'd be two dead carjackers for the paramedics to take to the morgue.

what sort of requirements are behind the right to conceal a firearm.

I was at Springfield Mall Saturday around noon. Does it say what time she was abducted and from where?

I read she was in Woodbridge around 3pm. This is unreal that this happened in daylight. What lot was she in?

I can't imagine that nobody saw anything.

Big HUG to that couple in Woodbridge who tried to help her. We need more people like that. Too bad they were not able to save her life.

At least one of the thugs died in the hospital-saves us all money incarcerating them for 40 years.

1) A certificate from a related class, such as firearm safety course

2) A criminal background check

3) An application to your jurisdiction's circuit court and a processing fee, which a judge signs off on following a clean background check

Once you have a VA concealed carry permit you can then apply for out-of-state permits in other states to broaden the concealed carry ability in more areas of the country by favorably utilizing reciprocity agreements. For example, VA in-state plus a New Hampshire non-resident permit makes you legal to carry concealed in 29 or so states when added to those states that don't prohibit it anyway (in accordance with the various states' laws such as where one may or may not carry concealed if legally permitted).

People are weird about guns.
I live in Springfield and carry a gun everyday. I’m not paranoid.
I rather have a gun and not need it, then not have a gun and need it.
My kids all know how to handle a gun/rifle.
We go to the NRA range in Fairfax at least once a month.
Going to the range is lots of fun and a great activity for the whole family.
With the economy the way it is now, there will be more crime. Don’t be a victim.

This was published 12 years ago - in 2008 we are constantly reminded of this author's prognostications, embodied again by the recent and needless and tragic death of this kindly woman.

There are some blunt truths behind the 50 to 1 statistic - and very rational and fair people would be be wise to remember it.
