College Transfer

I am graduating this semester from NVCC with A.S. degree in general studies. I was wondering if anyone here went the same route and has successfully transferred to a major university. My final gpa will be 3.8 I heard that JMU has a contract with NVCC to allow students to transfer but I know of very few that has actually done this.

I did it 20-some years ago. It is very easy to do, but you have to make sure NVCC does have a contract or understanding with the university you are going to. When I did it, the community college didn't, and a whole bunch of credits didn't transfer over. I ended up having to take a bunch of b.s. humanities courses to make up the difference.

I go to JMU. You are very likely to get in with a 3.8 gpa and I believe JMU does have a contract with virginia community colleges because if you graduate from one with an A.S. degree then you dont have to take any general education classes. Good Luck

There was an article in the Post the other day saying that JMU is no longer a "safe" school (automatic acceptance for Va high schoolers). It seems that this whiz-kid from Robinson got the thin envelope, shocking everybody involved. (The NVCC "contract" thing might be an advantage.)

Reasons given were that applications to JMU are way up, because parents are strapped, credit cards and HELOCS are maxed out, so Junior can't go to the way more expensive out-of-state schools. At the same time, JMU is not reducing the slots reserved for out-of-state students because, well, they pay the bills.

It's only going to get worse as home values decline...ma and pa just can't borrow the bucks anymore.

I went to NOVA back in 02-04, changed major from computer science to general studies-science or something like that, didnt get a degree but applied to 6 or so universities including JMU and got in. My gpa wasn't even as good as yours, something like 3.2

The difference is this guy will be going in as a Junior or second semester Sophomore. The bottleneck is for incoming Freshmen. Probably 1/4 to 1/3 of Freshmen drop out of school, making it easier to get in as a Sophomore.

I had a 3.2 gpa midway through my NVCC A.S. and applied at JMU and they sent me letters for 3 semesters practically begging me to go. that was 2006.
