I love when people with no training or real world experiences come on here and make themselves look like uninformed experts . Shocks me that they are able to find their way to their menial and meaning less jobs. Their battle cry is "If I was there I would have...."

Yep, they're affectionately known as "Monday Morning Quarterbacks". They have all the strategies they would have used if they were in the game. "They are the heroes of their own stories."

Agreed, these dumb fucks who think it was ok to shoot a small woman with a knife are showing just how cowardice they are in real life.

There was more than one police officer there and this just adds up to one officer WANTING to finally shoot their gun. Most likely the officer should serve be prosecuted and punished with murder.

Also, BULLSHIT on pepper spray not affecting some people and it sprays like 30 feet. You can not be trained out of the affects of the spray.

The fact that one of the cops got hit by friendly fire, is enough for me to say It wasn't necessary to fire that many shots.

If a women is running after you with a knife, and the cop is 20 feet away, and he can't hit that target dead on, he needs to be suspended. One shot to this lady would have messed her up enough to get the knife away.

To be honest, unless this girl was on some sort of crazy drugs, or having a medical issue. I think she could have been talked out of it.

I still believe LCPD is way way better then FCPD. But they need to seriously speak up about this, and tell all the facts and what they plan to do better in the future. We have so many non-lethally methods of taking people down.

Cool story bros.

Why don't you just wait and see what the investigation reveals. The deputies have their accounts, lots of witnesses, and possibly video surveillance footage. It may have been completely necessary. There's not remotely enough information for the general public to make a determination was to whether or not the force was necessary. One thing I can tell you for a fact is that she wouldn't have been shot if she wasn't holding a knife and scissors and taking threatening actions. The whole situation could have been avoided by her prior to being killed.

I know someone who works for Costco and trust me, just about every square inch of their stores are covered by cameras.
Hardly a day goes by at the Fairfax location without them catching someone trying to shoplift. As long as this incident is under
investigation we probably won't see any store footage released to the public.

WRONG - you just said yourself we have to WAIT to see what happened..........so, you do not know shit! There is no FACT in your opinion and it shows how hypocritical you are.

> The whole situation could have been avoided by her

Not by HER, but the police. There are 1000 ways this could have been dealt with that did not include deadly force. A fucking 8 year old kid can understand that.

And - I could go out on any public street and wave around a knife and would be doing nothing illegal.

They sacred the shit out of her while she was in an unstable mental place. Glad they rushed in and fucking ambushed her, then shot her............great job!

Witness even said they moved quickly and hid while approaching her, ducking down and shit.

I will wait for more details, but with what we have now.......it equals a homicide by the police officer.

So, an asian woman, who does not speak English very well. Takes care of her two daughters 8 and 12 by working at Costco because her husband left her for another women. She gets into a dispute with her manager about the sizs of the pizza slices she hands out. Manager calls the cops, two cops show up. She does not put down the pizza wheel cutter, not believing/understanding she will be shot otherwise. They were unable to tazer the small 4feet9 woman?? One cop shoots 5 times in a busy shop and thereby hits the other cop in the leg. They handcuff her after she is dead??? Or was she handcuffed before she was shot???

Something is strange, there must be video footage, cameras are everywhere in Costco.

De Leon Scott’s mother, Medina De Leon, told ABS-CBN officers used “excessive force” on her daughter, who suffered from depression because of a bitter divorce with her American GI husband and due to a custody battle of their two children.

She became upset after she ran out of pizza slices. She picked up a knife and got into it with Costco employees who panicked and called the cops.

She was confronted by just two deputies. One tried to taser her without success. The other shot all five bullets.

Nah, not quite. The story is she was acting nasty and erratic, probably more of something between her and her boss. Anyway, she didn't comply with the deputies and was threatening to them. That's why she was shot.

PS: On the bright side, she got a promotion from crackpot Asian to Floor Pizza in about 5 seconds. Good Shooting!!!

Think the cops high fived each other after smoking a liitle old lady? I like the tactical part were they were going through the isles croutching down.

Back in the good old days the police would have told everyone to leave the store and battoned the woman rather than shooting her up. Problem is cops are militant and are highered in that matter. IQ and critical thinking is one thing most of them lack.

In this day and age, the police can't take the chance. Too many foreign crazies in our country, no one's stupid enough to roll the dice. The bottom line, you threaten a police officer or sheriff's deputy - "Bam" your dead. It's as simple as that. When the police tell you to get down on the floor, you get down on the floor. It's not their job to play with lunatics.

Police State..that's where were going.. Democrats gun controls limiting citizens rights yet Cops have as many rounds auto weapons as they want add to that laws allowing deadly force like in this case..run thur red lights at high speed killing people in the way who never saw them coming. Google up Trooper Bowen killed at 100 MPH plus in King George County wrapping his cruiser around a traffic light about 2011 in the summer.

It will go on but so long then the people will demand changes in the laws.

Even the Dems.

" I like the tactical part were they were going through the isles croutching down."

Yeah.. We got that allright... Pure C.S.

You are wrong.

No one was in danger at all, unless like you they are cowards.

Ever heard of "Excessive Force"? The officer will be prosecuted, just watch.

3 people without guns could have subdued her with no problem, but to ignorant fucks like you believe shooting 5 bullets into her made sense.

Deputy shoots, kills woman at Va. Costco store
Thursday - 5/30/2013, 12:20am ET
STERLING, Va. (AP) -- A woman who authorities say went at two Loudoun County Sheriff's deputies with a knife and scissors was fatally shot by deputies at a Sterling-area Costco store.

The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Two deputies had been called to respond to a disorderly conduct complaint.

Officials say the deputies ordered the woman to drop the weapons, but she advanced on them. Authorities say one deputy used a stun gun on the woman, but it was ineffective.

Police say the second deputy fired several shots, killing the woman. She was identified as 38-year-old Mhai Scott of Sterling.

Authorities say Scott worked for Club Demonstration Services, who provides services to Costco. The Washington Post reports Scott had been serving pizza.

One deputy was injured. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Two deputies had been called to respond to a disorderly conduct complaint. The two trigger happy deputies stormed into the Cocsto in a bounding overwatch tactic.

The deputies yelled at the 4' 10" 95lbs woman to drop the PIZZA CUTTER. One deputy used a stun gun on the woman, but he missed fired or missed, we will never really know.

The second deputy fired 5 shots, killing the woman and shooting his partner in the leg.

Its very hard to put 5 shots on target, especially for guys who are not very good shots...Well I guess he didn’t put all 5 on target if he put one in his partners leg.

if it's highly incriminating toward the cops, I doubt we will ever see it or hear about it.

If any of you PUSSIES could not stop a tiny woman with a pizza-cutter, then just stfu!

if it truly was a pizza-cutter? then the officer should be jailed for life.

and why were there 30+ police vehicles on site? not an exaggeration, saw it on the live helicopter feed

if she was holding a pizza-cutter, yes - it would be highly "incriminating toward the cops"

and can someone tell me why there were 30+ police vehicles there?

Yes - I know that. Still does not answer the question. AFTER 1 lady was killed by 2 police officers, I am sure the department was well aware of the situation.

So.............why were there 30+ police vehicles?

I counted 18 just in one still shot out front of Costco. So, this "imbecile" still would like to know why so many officers and vehicles?

What.. do you think the cleaning crew at the store just takes out the body to the trash and washes off the blood?

The cops have to investigate the shooting, even if they did it. Just how do you think the cops who are investigating the shooting get to the store? Police cars. Now shut the fuck up about the number of cars. It has nothing to do with the facts of the shooting.

Go fuck yourself - since you can not come up with a reasonable answer to my question, all your pissy little cunt dripping means nothing.

So, it takes a minimum of 20 local police vehicles, 4 state police vehicles and the local police RV (with hood for shade) to "investigate"? Please just stop making yourself look like an idiot.

If I had to guess, I would say that 17 of the 20 local vehicles HAD NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

I will say, the RV thing and maybe 3 police cars MAX would be more than sufficient.

Oh, and the 18 locals I counted were in front of the CostCo, who knows how many others weere pissing around nearby.

Again, just to really drive in the point that you are a moron - lets say there are just 1 officer per car = minimum of 18 officers + 4 state officers + how many ever (guess 3) in the RV thing.............I will even give 5 officers away to help clear the store - so, it take 20 officers to "investigate". LOL

If you really think that many officers needed to be there, you are a fucking idiot. And someone does NEED to tell them how to do their job obviously.

I live in the area and yes there is little crime, but NO ONE can give any reason for that many officers.

You are lying to yourself if you do not agree that 20+ police vehicles was just ridiculous.

Here you go -

Real simple....

If the tiny lady had a pizza-cutter as her "weapon" then the officer should go to jail for homicide. Honestly, even a knife in reality - just a fucking trigger-happy ass who murdered someone who needed help.

20+ police vehicles is an insane amount with NO justification for that number - just makes the police look like idiots. They do need to be told how to do their job if this is acceptable and the norm.

But, when you get jacked by some asshole, while ALL the police are playing with their balls outside a minor incident (that ended up with homicide by the polcie) - be sure to think - They need 20+ officers to do an investigation or why why I tell them how to do their job.

dumbfuck!

Even if there is no video available (because Costco actually doesn't have full-coverage security cams maybe...) then at LEAST we should be able to see an image of the deadly weapon(s) the dead Bad Guy was threatening with, right?

My wife has a friend that works there. Per her, the lady had both scissors and a knife (for cutting pizza, not the round-ended pizza cutters you use at home), and would not put them down after the deputies told her to. Apparently when they went to arrest her she moved towards them and attempted to stab one of the deputies and apparently managed to tag one of them.

The Patch article above has this line...

"Authorities say Scott worked for Club Demonstration Services, who provides services to Costco. The Washington Post reports Scott had been serving pizza.

One deputy was injured. He was treated and released at a local hospital."

bullshit

that would have been the fucking headline "woman STABS police officer"

and you suck ass a cop if a tiny woman gets the jump on you with scissors and a pizza-cutter

still no reason to have killed her verse help her

and fuck everyone who says "the cop said to drop the weapon (scissors and a pizza-cutter", so they shot her"

how many 1000s of times have you seen a person with a knife on TV...and 50 cops have surrounded the house, or area, and they WAIT HOURS AND HOURS trying to help the person , not killing them immediately

all of you who think it was ok to kill the woman are full of shit

if it was a relative of yours and the police were called because your brother walked out in the street with a knife AND the police came. pulled up, WALKED DIRECTLY AT HIM and said "drop it", your brother does not and they put 5 bullets into him - all in a span of 5 minutes.......you ALL would be suing the shit out of that police departrment

But that's not what happened here. She was in CostCo filled with lots of people. It would have been irresponsible for them not to have done something. They tried to restrain her and she tried/did slightly injure one of the officers. She didn't comply, she was armed, and showed she had the resolve to use those weapons...And she paid the price for making that decision. The cops were totally justified in their response. If she had hurt someone shopping there, then you would have been the first person on their high horse about the police not doing their job.

The news is showing that it was not the tiny pizza cutter you might use at home, but in fact a large pizza cutter like the picture above and a large pair of scissors.

for all we know that man dropped his weapons and got down on the ground when the cops rolled up on him. Which is what you should do, if you don't want to run the risk of injury or death. If you try and attack a police officer, you have a good chance of getting killed, never heard of suicide by cop?

Somebody has some butt hurt.

Does the pressure from all the shit between your ears cause you to have headaches all the time?

Maybe your questions were so stupid to start with I was shocked that somebody would be so dumb to think it would only take 3 to 5 cops to investigate a homicide involving cops with one also being shot.

Are you really that dumb? Never mind. I already have my answer form what you posted. Now go back to "knowing" how cops "should do things" from watching TV.

But lets see if you can count...I will even number them to help you keep count

1-The sheriff...I'm sure he showed up
2-The under sheriff or whatever they call them here
3-homicide investigator
4-homicide investigator
5-IA investigator
6-IA investigator
7-CSI person
8-CSI person
9-supervisor for the investigators
10-IA supervisor
11-first cop there
12-2nd cop there
13-3rd cop there
14-the supervisor of the first 3 cops
15-the cop that came to help after the shooting
16-the cop that came to help after the shooting
17-the cop that came to help after the shooting
18-the cop that came to help after the shooting
19-crime scene security/traffic control
20-crime scene security/traffic control
21-crime scene security/traffic control
22-crime scene security/traffic control

I can keep going but it's getting old just to prove a point. But I am sure more investigators came also so add at least 5 or 6 cars for them. Not sure why state police were there but my guess is the sheriff asked them to help with either some crime scene stuff or assist with other stuff.

Why so many investigators? Because every witness has to be interviewed. I can only guess how many people that would have been. I am sure it took a few hours just for that alone.

Now I know you are going to give "your opinion" on what the cops need/don't need or some other come back or argument that in your mind sounds smart, but really you are not that smart as you showed from your first post.

Just remember its "your opinion". It means NOTHING to other people. Just like my opinion means nothing to anybody else.

Do your self a favor and learn about how cops do things and WHY they do things before saying more stupid shit.

And just to be clear...I am talking about the response after the shooting and what it takes to investigate something like this....not what happened in the store. I have no idea what happened in the store so I can not say what should or should not have happened.

The woman was a small Filipino housewife and obviously in some sort of distress (bad medication, diabetic, etc..). You're telling me 2 big strong cops couldn't find another way (other than 5 rounds at close range) to disarm her in a Costco full of shopping carts and boxes?

Not knowing all the details but this is overuse of the Loudoun Police (which has one of the worst reputation in the country). Maybe lack of training also: A 38 year old woman cannot be subdued by 3 police officers without killing her. But hey, she was just a low paid worker with a different ethnicity. What value are we putting on a human life. So sad. Every LC citizen should call the authorities for a serious investigation.

They do? I've lived in Nova for 20+ years and I've never heard that before.

There were 3 cops and who said they were big and strong? I have seen some cops that I highly doubt could fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

Did 5 shots hit her? I have not read that yet. I have read 5 shots were fired which IF TRUE means not all 5 hit her. At least 1 hit one of the other cops. So I count maybe 4 that MAY have hit her. Bullets are not magical. Just because you get hit by a bullet does not mean you stop/or fall down. That's the movies and TV. Maybe the cop missed 4 times and hit her once.

Again not saying what happened in the store was right or wrong...because none of us knows what happened.

I think there were so many cops there to widen the "Thin Blue Line" of a police coverup. I think the Sheriff probably knew right away......"Ut oh this is a fuck up and it's gonna be messy". Safety in numbers.

Well uhmmm....this beg's the question of why AREN'T they trained to be able to fight?

Of course if we are talking about FFX most cops will never break a nail ..but go loook at ANY cop in any major American city. In times of peace, the average beat cop has one of the most dangerous jobs out there. It is of absolute importance they not only learn how to restraing a criminal but also be able to occasionally be the aggressor in an altercation. There are times when their weapon(s) might have been taken or dropped and they might need to use their limbs as weapons. You can never plan for these events and assume that the office will always have their , CS spray, tazer, baton or gun.

This also leads to my own POV that there should be some sort of height / weight standard for police. A female cop who is 5'2 and 125 lbs is simply not going to be strong enough to restrain even a small man who is wound up, possibly intoxicated, and angry..not to mention a large and powerful man who is passionate about not going back to jail.

I remember the good ole days, where a cop showed up and could break up a fight and you expected the cop to be able to handle himself in a physical situation. Now a days, there is a possible physical situation and instead of 2 , trained, at least some what fit and strong police officers, you have 4-5 half assed fat boy or females with 0 real hand 2 hand combat training or experience in aggressive situations.

Thank ADA for that. Backup now may be non existant. After you subdue a bad guy you might have to do CPR on your chubby little partner.

Simply put...NO they are not trained to stand there and fight with people. That is not their job and never was. Cops are trained to use their OC, taser, stick etc instead of trying to fight you. They are trained how to defend themselves without the other items but as a LAST RESORT.

Back in the good old days you talk of, the cop would show up and beat the shit out of people. They did not fight you...THEY BEAT YOU. I could only imagine what people would do if we went back to the good old days of law enforcement in this country. If your punk ass kid talked back to a cop, the cop would smack him up the side of their head and then take them home to dad. Dad would thank the cop and then beat the kid more. If a cop did that now, the dad would want the cop arrested and would be at his lawyers office the next morning to file a suit.

I would bet 95% of the people on this site would not want to go back to the "good old days".

Ever wonder why cops don't carry the old mag light type metal flash lights anymore but the small plastic type now? Its so they do not hit you with them like they use to.

For one, I do not want the "old style of policing" to make a come back. I don't want to be dragged from my car to have the cop beat the shit out of me for telling him he is wrong because I was not speeding.

I had a guy working for me who was a VA State Trooper back in the 60's. He told me the funniest stories about how they dealt with people back then.

One time they picked up a beligerent drunk. The cuffed him up and threw him in the back of the Paddy Wagon. On the way to the jail they ran over every curb and thru every ditch they could find. They heard him getting tossed all around in the back. Got to the jail and he looked like he had the shit beat out of him, but they never laid a hand on him........Touche'

Ha. Yup. That was very common. So were "brake checks". Next time you see him, ask how many times he used his blackjack? And for what reasons he would used it. See what his reaction/body language is when you ask and how it changes. I bet he will tell you he never used one. You will see some change and then he will want to talk about something else.

Ever wonder why black jacks are no longer issued like they were "back in the good old days".

I've dealt with LCSO deputies and they are some of the most unprofessional people on the planet. This story has gone from "she lunged at deputies with a knife" to "she displayed a knife". I have found that LCSO deputies will lie and cover for each other ALL OF THE TIME! LCSO deputies are accountable to the sheriff, an elected official. The sheriff can ONLY be removed from office by the coroner or be voted out of office every 4 years. The deputies know they are accountable to an ELECTED official and know they can do ANYTHING they want and their "boss" can not be removed from office over their actions. If the deupty was justified in this shooting, we would see video from Costco all over the news, but we don't see that video, do we? What does that tell you? Loudoun County needs a POLICE DEPARTMENT with a POLICE CHIEF who is ACCOUNTABLE to ELCETED OFFICIALS AND HAS A CIVILIAN REVIEW BOARD to deal with complaints. Untill this happens, expect more of this in Loudoun County.

The sheriff and the deputies can be removed by the mayor, govenor, etc. Get your facts right crackpot.

First of all, learn to read fuck face. He worked for me. He wasnt my friend.

I called it a Paddy Wagon. Could have been a van or some other type vehicle.

Are you the same guy who wants to meet my neighbor's daughter?

No,YOU ARE WRONG! The only way an ELECTED SHERIFF can be removed is by the coroner. That is why a sheriff has so much power. I suggest you go read the law. The only person the sheriff is accountable to is.... NO ONE! This is why in most metro areas the sheriff's deppartment is only responsible for the jail andd court house security. I can tell you don't live in Loudoun, if you did, you'd know how out of control the deputies are.

Let me ask you something you seem to fail to address; why aren't we seeing security camera video from Costco all over the news if this deputy was justified? Most big box stores have at least 50 cameras. I use to run a small grocery store and I had 20 hi-res cameras covering every inch of the store. The system at Costco is top of the line, you can zoom in on a dime and tell if's heads or tails up. If he was justified, I know LCSO and they are all about "cover your ass."

Further more, Sterling has no "mayor" and all county & state officials can do is ask the sheriff to step down. Don't believe me? Try googling "sheriff Joe Arpiao", then come back here when you know what you are talking about.

Hey fuck face, find out what a paddy wagon really is then by learning to read. VSP only transports in their sedans. But I can see why anyone who works for you couldn't possibly be your friend.

Just an observation. The Sheriff is up for election every four years. If enough citizens are dissatisfied, he can be replaced. What should be more disturbing is that all deputies are appointed by the sheriff. It would make a lot more sense if these were civil service jobs, subject to county and state rules and supervision. Of course, a true police department would be the best way to go in a county the size of Loudoun.

I was at Costco this afternoon and purposefully looked everywhere for security cameras - as noted before the ONLY cameras I saw are near the front of the store and above the jewelry (this latter one probably has the ability you describe).

I can assume I simply missed "all the others" but, if so, they're not inside light fixtures, outlet fixtures, parts of cabling, or visible on/inside framework.

I don't think they exist.
