We can't even get people (read: one-person per car) out of their cars to carpool during their commute on our major highways in the daily morning commute....and the McCain/Palin campaign think Northern VA drivers are going to sit on shuttle buses to attend a rally? Talk about being out-of-touch with the constituency.

That's the second, or third time you've pasted that comment. Please come up with something new.

Here's what I don't get...Fair City Mall and Turnpike Shopping Center are supposed to be open for business on Wednesday...where are the customers supposed to park? I am sure that this is going to go over well with Trader Joe's, Total Beverage, Lifetime Fitness and Shopper's Food Warehouse.

Plus, if they are expecting 6000 people, there is NO WAY that that is going to enough parking even if people come three to a car. There MAY be 1000 spots, but that's about it. It would be great if the local news stations could provide an aerial view of the event, but I am sure that the Secret Service will kill that idea right away. My guess is that they get 3000-4000 at best.

Fairfax City is going to be a mess until midday with this event...did anyone from the McCain campaign give ANY thought when they advanced this? The Patriot Center seems like a logical location...plenty of parking and unlimited seating with decent access.

Another thought regarding parking...Fair Oaks Mall has acres of parking which is used to shuttle people for Celebrate Fairfax...you really have to wonder why this was not suggested as an option.

Typical republicans, they dont care of the misery of the common man being stuck in traffic as if we didnt have enough troubles already. I heard that they moved to the park becuase there were a lot of objections for them to use a school for political purposes during school hours. The school board got a lot of flak for it. I am glad they are not doing it in the school and feeding terror and fear into the minds of young ones.

I noticed on the John McCain website that the Mapquest map and directions for the event still direct people to Fairfax HS on Rebel Run. It is a nit I know, but how many people do you think are not going to get the message about shuttle buses and drive to either Van Dyck Park or FHS? I cannot imagine how screwed traffic in Fairfax City is going to be all day today and the ripple affect will run to Route 50/Fairfax Boulevard, 236 and 123.

Just my opinion, but I think that they are going to have a lot of pissed off supporters, especially those coming from outside the local area. Maybe the mavericks can tell God to fix our traffic problems. The old man and the GILF might get my vote if they can make that happen.

Typical democrats, they dont care of the misery
of the common man being stuck in traffic during the
Million Man March, Gay Pride parades, Million Mom March,
Illegal Immigration rally's and every other liberal
bullshit rally. (yes, the downtown group gropes spill
over into Fairfax traffic too) I havent left for the
John and Sarah rally yet, but I'm walking so please
be careful when you drive in the neighborhood and
try not to run over me while you so desperately
try to ignore the fact that McCain-Palin are ahead
in the polls and your liberal/fascist agenda will be
on hold for at the least the next four years.
Its obvious that you are so important that if you should be
late for work, the whole world would collapse but I'll bet you dont
work for the Pentagon.

I thought that Fair City Mall parking lot was under construction?

NBC4 News on the subject -

I like the part where the Republican campaign advisor is completely in the dark about the teacher and residents calls complaining about using the school.

The number I heard was 6,000, but the news pictures make the event look huge.

Much bigger than I expected. About half the crowd was kids, did classes from the nearby schools go?

Yeah, it was more like the 23000 number. I was there, it was a good event.

They said it was the biggest crowd so far that they had been to on their tour of late. And there were some kids there, but it was mostly adults.

Kudos to the Fairfax City Police - they had the whole place cleared out by 1:30. Considering they only had less than one day notice on the final venue they did a great job pulling it off. That was a lot of people...

23,000 is the biggest crowd McCain and Palin can get? They've been in huge venues?

Don't trust photos of political events! They've been caught doctoring them before....the same faces in numerous spots in the crowd.

What I don't understand is the Repubs' silence on the whole Fairfax High thing. They make a HUGE deal out of the stupidest shit, so I would have expected them to scream bloody murder about the injustice of NObama being allowed to use Robinson for his rally and McCain not being allowed.

Instead, they just said they wanted a larger facility and the change of venue was their idea...puzzling.

This is the same bunch that alleges that when NObama recently used the common expression, "like putting lipstick on a pig" he was calling Palin a pig! That's laughable! Especially when McCain has used the same expression in the past.

I was at the park today also and enjoyed the atmosphere and description painted by the original poster. I walked from van dyke to fair city afterwards.

Fox 5 10:00 news did a 20 second segment on this monumental event serving it little justice in relation to how grand this day was

Pow-wow'08

Edit; I meant to post this in rods other thread

One of the things I liked was how the crowd which was enormous and over whelmed the facilities, treated the protesters and Obama signs. No one abused or really paid much attention to the protesters who were in such small numbers.

I also walked back to Fair City where I fell into conversation with an elderly volunteer who urged me to show up at McCain.org and make phone calls at thier phone bank in Fairfax out near the Red White and Blue Barbecue.

Fuck all your bickerings today and be as one and remember the folks who died today and our colleagues who are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. God bless you all and may your souls rest in peace! Amen.

Pro-choice is a choice.

for a christian as I am, it is not about abortion. NO ONE WANTS ONE. It's about the government deciding about your body.

I can't believe that there are people out there that really think pro-choice is pro-abortion. IT"S NOT> It's about keeping my rights...in my womb.

a true republican: Keep the govt out of my house....and out of my womb.

you are 100% correct...its about reproductive privacy. In China they limit people to one child..in this country they want to force women to have children. It's all the same...big government sticking it's nose where it doesnt belong!
