Sen. McCain & Gov. Palin Speak at Fairfax High School
Posted by: 124C41 ()

I understand that the County policy to NOT to use public schools for political events. Is it "fair" to allow McCain and Palin to use one of Fairfax's high school for political purposes? Is someone accountable who should be removed from office?

It appears out of policy to allow a political rally on campus during school hours or to distribute campaign literature on site. (See http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/0/7D31557583AD091585256FD60059300F?OpenDocument and http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/0/49FA7A4AAD21CAE485256FCD006C8AAE?OpenDocument)

It is true that FCPS allowed Senator Obama to use facilities at Robinson in July. That was, however, during the summer (although summer school was in session) and they are inviting in the 12th graders this time.

You can contact the superintendent's office to ask about this and make comments by calling 571-423-1010 or send email to jack.dale@fcps.edu.

Anybody interested in showing up to protest John "100 Years War" McCain? If they let McCain in to speak can they stop taxpayers from coming for a peaceful protest?

Fairfax High School is owned by Fairfax City and NOT the county.
I will excuse your ignorance. If you wish to attend, the
"short" bus service is being extended for Democrats.

Dear FFxCityDude,

I don't know who owns the school where Senator McCain and Governor Palin are scheduled to speak, but I do know that Fairfax County Public Schools is the authority responsible for granting use of the facility in question and determining if the activity is in or out of policy. The reason I know this is because I just called Jack Dale's office. Go ahead and check it out for yourself if you don't believe me.

If you plan to attend tomorrow's celebration, please keep in mind that
if you park in the surrounding area, there are a lot of thefts from
cars and business establishments on and near Rt50. Remember to lock
your vehicles and do not leave any valuables behind.
There are also homeless individuals who wander and even some shady
individuals who may have a home but do not spend much time there.
Watch out for pick-pockets and con-artists. If you should see someone wearing Expensive Jeans, call 911 immediately.

In case there are demonstrators, you may want to bring a gas mask
and motorcycle helmet. Its also wise to bring enough cash for bail
money if you should be arrested.

If you forget your ticket, you will not be admitted.

While you're in the neighborhood, be sure and spend lots of money
in some of our finer establishments such as the 29 Diner and the
Patriot Bar and Grill. Hooters is very nice if you can find a seat.
Harley's are optional at Hooters, but if you would like one,
Patriot Harley Davidson will gladly sell you the motorcycle of
your choice.

NPR has announced that the McCain campaign will not be holding a rally at the Fairfax high school "due to size accommodations." The event will instead be held at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax, 3730 Old Lee Hwy.

Wonder if they'll have a dedicated area for protesters...

The only size accommodations are the FAT ASS REPUBLICANS that need extra space to rest their loins!

They moved the event. Apparently the first location wasn't big enough to accommodate all the people coming to see them. They probably should have scheduled to have it back in July before school was in session, kind of like how Obama had his rally at Robinson.

Okay you old losers enough. As a senior at Fairfax High School I have a say. I think this is a complete garbage call. Jack Dale not only does not know how to run this county but is a clown. We seniors are being deprived at a chance at being educated. Any parents should shut their mouths and let us decide

FYI - Students at Fairfax High School at not welcome at the rally. McCain doesn't care about you, you have no money.

The radio said there are plenty of tickets available and you can get them at the event also.

The spin of "the gym was full" by the McCain campaign is completely false, they got kicked out of the gym by school board members and county residents protesting.

We can't even get people (read: one-person per car) out of their cars to carpool during their commute on our major highways in the daily morning/evening commute....and the McCain/Palin campaign think Northern VA drivers are going to sit on shuttle buses to attend a rally? Talk about being out-of-touch with the constituency. Let alone the number of people in the area inconvenienced by the delays on those streets in the morning with the traffic/commute. Another example of stupid McCain/Palin campaign planning.

The angry lack of respect some of the Democrats or Liberals on here are doing nothing to build the party. Let's prove we all have intellect by showing honor to our fellow American's regardless of party. I know many of you must get your opinions and hateful attitude from the liberal newscasters, but let's rise above that.

As far as school policy being inconsistent for Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain, it's clear that the problem is that NOVA is more liberal and they are protesting a GOP event. Of course no one cared that Sen. Obama was up there. Let's not fool ourselves with summer school vs the regular year. It's inconsistent because it's a partisan situation, which it shouldn't be.

Capitalism has made America great. It drives research, development, creativity. Free people who honestly have a chance to make a good living will work hard if rewarded. Punishing those who work hard and are therefore paid for their efforts only destroys everyone.

Getting an online ticket was very easy.

What does capitalism have to do with any of this? No one is arguing the "merits" of capitalism (you wrote: Capitalism has made America great. It drives research, development, creativity. Free people who honestly have a chance to make a good living will work hard if rewarded. Punishing those who work hard and are therefore paid for their efforts only destroys everyone.)

NOVA may be liberal, and may tilt on Democratic, but there is a "reasonability" and "in-touch" issue here. If the McCain/Palin campaign had planned carefully, they would have planned their rally earlier in the season, as the Obama campaign did. Bottom line is they didn't, and it is against all common sense to hold a partisan rally during the school calendar. Just plain poor planning, no matter what your political affiliation. Again, it simply shows how disconnected they are from "real" people.
