Vandals Hit Vienna Elementary School, Other Town Properties
Police investigate obscene, vulgar graffiti discovered across town Wednesday morning.

Like she does every day, Vienna Elementary School custodian Angela Bedoya arrived to open the building Wednesday long before students and teachers came to start the school day.

But the scene she found was unlike anything the school has seen before.

Vulgar phrases and images were scrawled across windows, doors, and playground signs in blue and black ink, reaching across the pillars that anchor the front of the building and around the corner towards the Patrick Henry Public Library.

It continues around the side of the cafeteria, the back library windows, the SACC doors and the playground, school media specialist Terry Love told Patch.

It then moves onto the bridge spanning the small creek connecting the school grounds to the W&OD Trail.

The school is one of several properties in Vienna apparently targeted by vandals overnight, Vienna Police spokesman Officer Gary Lose said, though details about other incidents were not readily available Wednesday morning.

Residents who emailed Patch on Wednesday said other affected areas include the W&OD Trail and a few local businesses, along with the American Legion flag collection box.

Fairfax County police were taking the lead at VES, since it's a county school, Lose said.

Love said FCPS crews were onhand removing some of the graffiti from the school Wednesday.

"Destruction is a form of creation," says one message written on the pillar next to door four, suspended above an image of a face with a gas mask.

"It's not worth it," reads another on the glass of entry doors.

The playground sign has a litany of obscene words, and vulgar images are plastered around the property.

It's not clear if any property is permanently damaged, or how long the graffiti will take to remove.

Police: Vandals Hit More Buildings, Signs Across Vienna
More incidents still being confirmed after graffiti discovered Wednesday at Vienna Elementary.
http://vienna.patch.com/articles/police-vandals-hit-more-buildings-signs-across-vienna

Vienna Elementary School wasn't the only building hit by vandals early Wednesday.

Vienna police confirmed to Patch on Wednesday night they had linked a number of other graffiti cases to the vandalism at the school, including:

•Windover/West Street: Stop Sign
•Lewis/West Street: Stop Sign/Speed Hump
•Malcolm/West: Stop Sign/Street
•Ayrhill/Center: Stop Sign
•Community Center Rear Door
•Bridge behind Vienna elementary
One reader told Patch the Vienna Assembly of God was also hit, as well as County Transmissions on Dominion Road and the flag drop box near the American Legion on Center Street. A Patch reader said the Louise Archer Elementary School playground was also affected earlier this week.

As of press time, Patch could not confirm those cases of vandalism were related to the string of other incidents.

FCPS crews were onhand removing some of the graffiti from the school Wednesday.

Along with messages scrawled across the school's front pillar, and windows and doors around the school, the playground sign has a litany of obscene words, and vulgar images are plastered around the property.

A Patch reader who commented on Wednesday's story about the incidents said students were not allowed outside for recess.

It's not clear if any property is permanently damaged, or how long the graffiti will take to remove.

This is clearly a reaction to high taxes in Vienna (property and restaurants).

Isn't Vienna Elementary School and the library located right across the street from Vienna's public safety department?

If only there was a mattress store in Vienna. A comfortable night's sleep ensures that there is no Bolshevik graffiti on our beautiful walls.

Thank goodness we pay additional taxes so we can have our very own police department.

How terrible, Vienna is always so clean and nice. A real shame that someone’s vandalizing everything.

I've seen beatniks and coloreds hanging out at that Jamming Jive place on Maple Ave. The police officers might want to check that place out...seems like trouble
