Do you want to get laid or not? Charthouse is it. The end. Good food, nice atmosphere and you are right on the Potomac.

Otherwise, take her to Burger King and get what you paid for. Nothing.

DC has tons of places. Dupont, Adams Morgan, Chinatown, Georgetown.

Look in the Washingtonian Magazine for latest reviews.

and Chart House is pretty nice place. Its not expensive, unless ofcourse you make minimal wage :)

Chart House is premier. Yes, it is somewhat expensive. Yes, the view of the river and bridge is terrific. The food is excellent and will be remembered. Walking in Old Town and along the river will be a treat--and if on the weekend or during the day, take the boat ride.

Do NOT go to DC. It's not worth the potential problems and the hassle. (Exception would be tourist vistas during the day, such as museums, statues, Capitol, etc.)

You will be credited with your savoir-faire and a great date. Bon Appétit!

219 in Old Town is great! It's romantic, usually has a live band playing, and offers great service...

Wonderful place...

Chart House is OK. It still is what it is - a chain with not much flavor. The salad bar is overrated and the restaurant, while it has nice views, is bland. For the same amount of money, better views and atmosphere, I would suggest INdigo Landing a few miles north of Old Town on the GW parkway. The views of the capitol at night can't be beat. In Old Town, La Bergerie is second to none. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Landini Brothers is also a good spot.

IN DC, the options are limitless. There are nice places all over the city.

Chart House is not premier, its an OK place with a view of the dark water, and thats about it.

You want good food? DC is the place to go.

If not DC, Clarendon would be second choice.

Chart House was great in the late 80s.

Try Obelisk in DC. Guarantee lay afterward. -§

and I would not recommend Indigo Landing.

View might be nice, but food is not great.

For that price, try Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon, Cafe Asia in Rosslyn, Majestic, the Warehouse, or Landini Brothers in Alexandria.

You might want to check out this site to help narrow your choices and then come back here and ask opinions of ones you've narrowed down. You are asking people to give suggestions on a universe of tones of restaurants. People have different tastes - for instance, I think Indigo Blue is good for what it does (low country quisine), granted not as good as a good restaurant in Charleston doing the same thing, but Kieve disagrees. I am sure he has favorites that I might call dogfood.

Sorry, just scrolled up and saw you were looking for a good one in the Chinatown neighborhood. Your friend may have been talking about the Chop House, but the ambiance is not my idea of a "date place." Zola near the spy museum comes just barely under your budget, but I think it is good.

Mexican? Your only option in Old Town is Austin Grill. In DC, you go to Lauriol Plaza. Be prepared to wait though, but it is worth it.

La Tasca in Clarendon might be along his budget.

$10 dollar entry is Polo Ala Brasa in manassas :)

He could easily make La Tasca fit in his budget, not Mexican though. I have had mixed experiences there both in service and quality.

Austin Grill is good, but I am not sure it is worth driving to if you are coming from a distance, but I don't think much Mexican is worth the drive. There seems to be an abundance of them in the region and many are on par with one another.

All nice suggestions considering that everybody has their unique taste. You may want to try Bonefish or Coastal Flats both in Fairfax. But, if you have a charming date to take to a place with good atmoshere, good wine or good ale you probably find a way to make it a great evening.

The Fish Market in Old Town is pretty good and relatively inexpensive. If you go, you absolutely HAVE to order the spiced shrimp. The restaurant is located on King St a block or two from the water. There are ice cream parlors next door for dessert.

My favorite place is Coastal Flats in Fairfax, part of the Great American Restaurant chain. Moderate prices. Great location. Service is exceptional! Call ahead. Movie theater across the street. Other restaurants nearby (Chinese, Mexican, steak, etc.).
