Which college is better in terms of campus life and academics George Mason University or James Madison University?

Between just George Mason University and James Madison University which is better in these two categories. The first category being campus life. The second category being academics.

Don't know anything about their academics, but campus life includes life off-campus. George Mason puts you in Metro distance of the whole D.C. area's vast cultural and intellectual resources, including activities at Georgetown, GWU and other universities, and if you need to hold a part-time job you might find more opportunities around GMU than in a rural college town. On the other hand, you might study harder at a college with fewer distractions.

GMU has traditionally had no campus life to speak of; probably a little better now, but JMU is without doubt superior. I'd give JMU an advantage overall, academically. Maybe not huge difference these days. individual department might make a difference. JMU superior in music, GMU computer science, etc....

Easy... Campus life goes to Madison, academics go to Mason.
Madison's academic reputation has taken a hit the past ten years and it has transformed into more of a party school. Both are good schools though.
Having gone to Mason, campus life is pretty lame, but as a poster above said, free bus rides to the metro and you have access to all of DC. Georgetown, American, and GW events are easy to get to. Will also be fun as GW and GMU will develop a nice rivalry in basketball which is a simple orange line ride on the metro.

Both are suitcase colleges. JMU is close enough to home for students from NOVA for them to go home Friday and party with their asshole high school friends. At least it was that way when I went there a decade ago.

JMU student body is 80% white. Very few Ragheads or Ranjeesh's.

Let's be honest. There is no campus life at George Mason. It's go home to your parents house after class.
Where I went to school we would hit up the Fraternity houses and some 12 keg fraternity parties. Also party at the local bars playing speed quarters. Then walk back to our dorms trashed.
