Donnie Darko based out of Fairfax County?

Someone recently informed me that the critically acclaimed film "Donnie Darko" was based out of Fairfax County?

Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes it was.

You can see Grandma death wondering around in the Midgetville area.

Middlesex, VA originally supposed to be Midlothian, VA (which is where they found John List living, as a bit of trivia. He was the guy out of NJ who killed his whole family in the early 70's and then was caught years later) but all filmed in CA
