Does the Virginia GOP Convention Represent True Democracy?
The Republican Party in Virginia decided to have a primary in 2013, but later changed its mind.
http://mclean.patch.com/articles/poll-should-the-virginia-gop-have-a-convention-or-a-primary

Virginia’s Republican Party annual convention is set for May 17 and 18, and delegates from around the state will select nominees for Lt. Governor and Attorney General.

GOP officials have gone back and forth in recent years on whether to host a convention or conduct an open primary. In 2011, GOP officials had decided to hold a primary in 2013, but a group of newly elected members of the Commonwealth's GOP central committee changed course in 2012 and switched to a closed convention.

The switch to a convention saves local governments and the state money — primaries are paid for with state and local dollars, but convention costs come directly from the Virginia GOP’s funds.

It was the announcement of plans for a 2013 convention that drove Lt. Gov Bil Bolling to forfeit his run at the Republican nomination for governor. Bolling called the convention a mistake that would ultimately hurt Virginia’s Republican Party.

Given that any voter in Virginia can participate, it certainly is a true democracy. Kudos to the GOP for saving the state and localities money by not having a primary. In these tight economic times, every dollar counts.

Actually that's bad, because the money spent goes right back into the economy. So this means that money is held up with the GOP until its spent.

LOL. Only a retard would claim that money spent on holding an election goes right back into the economy. How brainwashed are you? Even IF you were correct, which you clearly aren't, it would not compare to the amount of money that will go into the economy from thousands of people travelling to a convention. Sorry, you fail.

Oh really? Where do you think that money goes? If its not being spent, that means it goes nowhere. These elections stimulate the economies for the areas - food, paper, etc. It may not seem like alot of money to you, but it is to those businesses. The only thing that government is good for (when talking about the economy) is just the redistribution of wealth.

And it allows local governments to reduce spending overall or use that money for other useful programs like libraries and schools.

Elections stimulate a food economy? This should be good....
LOL.

What businesses?

Yes, you are an idiot. There is no redistribution going on in a primary election.

Get an education dolt, anytime any of these functions come through they are good for the local economy. On a personal note I'm glad the GOP didn't do a primary either, do you know why? BECAUSE THEY ABSOLUTELY SUCK!!! HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!

Nope, wrong again. There is no ancillary benefit from running an election out of a middle school gymnasium. If there were, you would be able to point to one and you haven't because you can't.

Does the Virginia GOP Convention Represent True Democracy?

It's a stupid question. The political parties should be allowed to choose their candidates, but Virginia allows anyone to vote in primaries. That allows voters from the opposing party to help choose the weaker candidate to run against their own in November. The convention allows those most dedicated to the party to choose the candidate.

Republican primaries are so rigged it's not even funny. Ever since about 2000 the numbers reported are so made up.
